ADDING HP

I wanted to know if changing the pistons on my mini s would improve performance they told me it would add 40 - 60 Hp but it is the safest way to go. They Also told me they can open up the engine to a 2.0 L what do you guys think about this????

Have they ever done this before? Also... how do they plan to tune it?

Are they showing you their car or going to test on yours?

Maybe more durable pistons to deal with higher boost or other engine changes. I don't see how changing pistons alone will do much at all for performance. Did they give you any more details?

You also said "both"....there should be four pistons.

The only way i could see gaining 40-60 hp from pistons would be jacking the compression way up which would require RACE GAS ONLY.
Sorry you cant make that much from pistons alone.

They told me they done 3 car before and they where made for customers that only use them on track he told me it would be a monster they said they would modify some other parts but the most gain would be from the pistons. He said it was from some really high cuality material. He told me after getting that get alta and m7 parts and I should be around 400 hp

Our engine already has high compression. Not sure I'd want it any higher. 9k! :impatient

I'd just stick to the more reasonable mods. Perhaps look into a new turbo and tuning. Not sure I'd go into the bottom end.

But if you decide to do it, let us know!

Could be forged pistons and a TON of boost?

What mods do you have already? There is a decent amount of power to be found with just bolt on parts.

Unless you can talk to the other 3 owners that have had the work done I wouldn't do it. Ask them to put everything in writing and list out all of the parts they will be using.

Whatever shop told you that is full of crap. I suggest you keep your business to Alta or RMW or another competent tuner (or a dealer of them) with physical results. Don't let this place take you for a ride and waste your money.

My $.02,
Josh

Why are you even thinking of doing this, the car you have once you put the ECU on will be plenty of fun and plenty fast...all your doing is asking for headaches and a car sure to be in the shop..talk to some of the guys on this site, email them or get their phone numbers or talk to Alta, but think what your talking about doing...Their are a whole lot better things you could be doing with your money...There's some pretty passionate Mini guys around here that I am sure will agree...Enjoy your car

Keep your money in your pocket and do your research first. It sounds like the shop you are talking to is feeding you a line of bull.

your engine is approx 100 cubic inches

they are promising you 420hp or a 4.2-1 hp/ci ratio

that's a ton of boasting to get 4.2 on street gas and drivable

so, with that thought in mind...

I have a pig that flies that I can sell you as well:p

I'd stick to the proven bolt on mods for the time being. If you really want that much power down the road find a shop that knows MINI's and has some experience doing engine builds with big turbo set ups

I have to add my name to the list of skeptics. I find it hard to believe that there is a bored out/stroker version of this engine that displaces 2.0 liters. If you find it is real, are they increasing the bore or stroke? Whose parts are they using?

I'd at least want to know the particulars beforehand, if I were you.
