actually there was a design problem with how the shift **** stays on...on the old design there is potential for a few items that after extended use can break on the shift **** as the flares on the top of the stock design was missing...these are on the new design. There are not just changes with the packaging as minibeast suggested.

Now that folks are starting to get these units, I'm curious to know how much lighter they are over stock (***** off). If not much trouble, please share what your scale says. Thanks! I'm going to guess over a pound, and maybe almost 2...

Clearly, there are no shiftless bums here.

While I'm not currently able to weigh the difference (stock one is at the shop), I dont remember there being much difference in weight. If anything I think the new B&M is a little heavier which might account for improved shifter feel. Will verify Monday.

To check to see which one you have take a look at the picture that minibeast was kind enough to post...you will notice that the stock shifter has two flares near the top where as the aftermarket one doesn't...the new design will have a flare similar to this. So just check to see if yours flares or not. Also the new design won't be ready for 3-4 weeks so if you have one already it is the old design.

About the momo - i'm guessing that the momo type would have a better chance of not messing up on the old design then the push on type like the stock ****...but there still is a chance that you would have problems after awhile. The missing flares are a safegaurd essentially and after first putting on the shift **** you wouldn't notice a problem...but it is 3-6 months after you have installed that we want to ensure that it will still work like new and thus the reason for the changes.

So Casey,

It sounds like your suggestion is then to wait until the revised version is available. I've located an older version and would like to install it, but am I simply asking for trouble? Where can I preorder the newer version? TIA.

minibeast:
"Thread pitch is 1/2 X 20mm"

oops...what thread system are you using, and is it metric or english?

English would be: diameter (in inches, usually fractional, like "1/2"" followed by the threads per inch, a dimensionless number, like 13, or 20)
1/2-13 is USCoarse, 1/2-20 is US Fine.

For metric: diameter (in mm, like "10&quot, followed by the pitch in mm, which is the measure in mm between thread crests, like 1.0, or 1.5.
10mm x 1.0, for example.

You can preorder them from ProMini. Is the old design guarnteed to have problems...no...but the potential is there and personally I would not want that on my car. I would personally just wait for the new design...it is only a few weeks. Give us a call at 1-800-648-7278 to preorder the new ones and the day they come in we will be sending them out.

I'll have to check the tool I used again to measure the thread. B&M thougt the measurement was 1/2 x 20. I was not looking closely at the tool but thought it said 20mm. Will respond back in the am when I can verify.

Update,
Have been using the Current generation shifter now for almost 2 weeks, everyday in city traffic driving. No problems, no glitches. I'm using the B&M shift **** which isn't going anywhere since it's the screw-on type. Can "HIGHLY" reccomend the 1st generation shifter for those that prefer aftermarket style shif *****. I'm still waiting on the Whalen Shifting machine to verify it will fit also. Will post when I have info on it. If anyone in the S. Florida area has one of these and would be willing to allow me to test fit it, please email.

I can also verify that the current (and only) revision of the B&M shifter works excellent. I'm not sure if the shift **** flanges that Casey mentioned are required for the Whalen, but I'll let you know when the Whalen gets here for eval.

So far, the info from B&M states that there were repackages on the first three units, but other than that, there are no other revisions. I'm waiting to hear back from one of the engineers to verify that (the info came from the sales department).

I'll keep you posted. I still have six units left, and expect another 5 next week.

Hope that helps.

Randy

OK, just talked with the tech guy at B&M and here's the news:

The first run of 100 units has sold out, and they do the runs in batches of 100. They are in the second production run of 100 units which are identical to the first run units. There are no differences whatsoever in design.

There are also brand specific runs done for vendors, and those are also identical other than branding on the *****.

That's from the horse's mouth.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Randy

Not sure who you talked to but there is changes being done to them outside of packaging and any branding specific to certain vendors....and this was from the horses mouth.

I talked to one of the designers of the units. He is also involved in production - specifically to the MINI.

Maybe he is unaware of something your guy knows, but he assured me that the next run of 100 currently underway is the exact same as the first run of 100.

Who did you speak with? I'm thinking there may be two different units we are talking about (though the tech didn't know of any other), the B&M and the PROMINI. Eventhough the PROMINI is made by B&M, it may have some slight changes when compared to the B&M, I really don't know.

Let me know what you find out, and I'll keep talking to other folks.

Randy

I've double checked with Anthony our purchasing manager who verified that there is changes with his reps at B&M...we have a few of the old design....if you absolutely can't wait for the final design give us a call as we are blowing out the old ones now for $124.95...these are the ones that everyone is selling right now. The new design will be here in 3-4 weeks and will be sold for $139.95.

Just got a call from my sponsor and they spoke to rep at B&M. He states that there are no design changes scheduled. They are currently sold out of the first run and the next run will not have any changes. (Same as Randy heard)
Since there does not seem to be any changes I went ahead and worked out a deal for a group buy to get the shifters at $120 + shipping. I only need 15 to start to get this price, so email me to get on the list.

Update: Just got off the phone with our rep and the next run is getting delayed a few weeks...it is now looking like 4-6 weeks until the next run for MINI Short Shift Kits and they are out of the ones from the original run. They have not done any runs recently for the MINI...just the original first run. At this time all I can say is that the version we will be selling will be different(not just packaging/directions/or engraving on the top of the shift ****) then the ones that others are currently selling. We are selling ones from the original and only run if you really have to have to it now and can't wait for $124.95. When we get the new one it will be $139.95. Sorry for the delay as I had said 3-4 weeks originally but they have been very busy as they make short shift kits for a ton of different cars and the MINI is just a small piece of it.

Just heard from the rep at B&M. He has been monitoring the board and wanted to answer some questions.
1st - I got the Thread pitch wrong. Thread pitch is 12mm X 1.25.
2nd - The height change is 1/4 inch lower. Feels like a little more to me but as you can tell from above, I have a little problem with measurements. Yes, I can be wrong!

I'll say it again - "At this time all I can say is that the version we will be selling will be different(not just packaging/directions/or engraving on the top of the shift ****) then the ones that others are currently selling." The ones we have will be different and we believe are better and you will not have to wait any longer then the others as these are being made in the next run which isn't scheduled for 4-6 weeks. But if you want one right now we have ones form the original run and you can get them for 124.95...and you don't need to have a group buy to get these. Order today and it ships today no need to wait for others.

You can also sign up for the ProMini mailing list...the mailing is going out later this afternoon will include a special on ones from the new run which will be available in 4-6 weeks.
