CAI, Pulley, One Ball - What to do with the ECU?

Alright, I need a little advice. I just one-balled my exhaust, and the plan is for X-Mas to upgrade my '07 MINI Cooper S Cabrio. I want to do a Cold Air Intake, and a 15% pulley, and after some thinking I wanted to make sure that there was no room for error and upgrade my ECU mapping as well. I don't know what to do on the ECU however - what is the recommended upgrade for this setup (which brand has an ecu program for this setup). Thanks in advance for the advice!

Well I've bin running with a pulley and other engine mods, with no mapping, for about 20k miles now with no experienced issues. i have heard of others on 80K+ with no ECU remapping. It's something not really needed unless your looking for more power. In that case I highly recommend it. There are a number of places that will do custom dyno tuning, some others you can ship your ECU to and they will map it based on the list of mods you provide. AS well there is GIAC/MTH piggy back mods that will help out.

We have the new ALTA P-n-P ECU for the R53 launching later this week. We will have the dyno before and after tunes, and that ALTA cold-Air, 15% is first on the list (after the JCW cars) SO I would be happy to help you out with a complete package if you want? Even if you wait until December. Would certainly make a nice present under the tree! Even better have the significant other pick it up for you! Let me know if I can help!

To first order...

you don't have to do anything. The car is a speed density system, and the one-ball doesn't change the breathing all that much to really mess with the volumetric efficiency of the motor (what the algorithms are based on).

Now, if you want to do things like change your red-line, screw with the traction control, or rework the map, then you have tons of options, depending on your goals. There's the set up Adam mentions, as well as tons of canned maps for about your set of mods. The very best is to get a custom tune for the car, as that's the only way to really optimize what you've got, including all the tolerance stacking (individual parts variations) that are unique to your particular car. That siad, to do that, you should choose a tuner that's near you for customs.
