Throttle response delay..??

Hey NAMers..
Quick question regarding my mini's throttle response..
its a 05 with about 58k miles on it right now.. I have HAI and running 17% with colder plugs..

now, my issue with the car right now is its sometime INCREDIBLY Dull, and slow at responding to my Go pedal... I know MINI is one of the worst in terms of throttle response but shoot.. way too dull!

especially like when I am in a stop and go traffic. I pull it out of a gear to stop, then put it in 1st to get moving again, , I press the Go pedal and no response.. I press deeper and deeper until I actually get a response back from the car... is it the weather? HAI? or BPV?? it is getting annoying..

any thoughts??

I think the reason there is a delay with the initial depress of the gass pedal, has something to do with the fact there is no direct mechanical connection. NoW I may be crazy and have my facts mixed up. But our throttle body is not cable actuated, it is vacum actuated. So there is in fact a chain of evvents that has to occur before the engine gets enough air to increase in RPM's.

Don't know where you live, but a LDG ECU tune will address that issue for 'ya.

I would suggest to reset the learning data off the ecu, the easiest way to do is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

That will reset the ecu back to default set up, this may or may not help. But it's free .

It works for me though.

Try that first. If the problem still there, then bright the MINI to see professional.

Just my 2 cents.

In know Fireballed and RMW changed to a throttle cable on their turbo only kits. I would love to have cable throttle the responce would be perfect, not the three second delay we are used to.

I have an '05 and have YET to experience such bad TR as I have read on nam. I started with a CAI in went step by step with THOUSANDS of miles in between with never a complaint! It really surprises me when I see threads like this. I know the MINI isnt the best off the line, but dang! If you havent gotten a tune yet, maybe thats the problem. If you have then theres something else ammist! Just look at some of Mario's posts about his bad TR and off the line performance. (and hes at a claimed 234WHP!)

My TR is much better after my tune but its still not like I would want. I have driven the Mini's with the 05+ tranny and they are night and day over the 04 and under. When I run out of doing mods maybe I will save up for a 05-06 tranny and lighten flywheel.

I started a thread a few months ago on this topic. Basically, we came to the conclusion that it's not actually the throttle body that's lagging. My boost gauge moves instantly and perfectly with the accelerator pedal. It's most likely on the fuel side of things ( ie. it needs a better tune).

I myself have wondered about how to fix such a situation, considering lightened flywheels, etc for a fix.

Symptoms: I depress the pedal completely as fast as I can, and let up immediately after fully depressing...I wait possibly a half a second (seems like a second or two though) and then the RPM's start to pick up.

So on that note and the consensus seeming to be a tune...any ideas of where to get a good one, accessible from Baton Rouge, LA? That should be a challenge for you, in the land of rednecks and pickup trucks (I'm scared all the time here ). I'd love to know of a good tuner in the area on the off chance that I end up not getting RMW's rotrex package (with the remapped ECU).

thats going to be a hell of a drive for a custom tune! maybe a remap would be in order. GIAC has worked wonders for my car. but TR was never the issue. 19% pulley took care of that! :D

My car takes off fine it just needs a little more gas when taking off, mostly due because of my taller gears. The 3 seconds in when you let off the gas pedal the the RPM's fall very slowly. The delay is more on the let off not when reving up.

Tune will help a ton. But also consider removing weight off the rotating assembly. An ALTA Crank Pulley or lightened flywheel as well. By ramping the timing in the throttle tip in and removing the excess weight the throttle response is improved dramatically. Pretty common concern with this owners group, but your narrative does seem to sound excessive in your situation.

Let me know if I can help!

Mario,

That is programmed in when the tune is done. Mine started doing that too after tuning.
The tuner can get rid of that delay if you want. He puts it in so you don't have to heel-toe it.

I don't like it. It sounds like I'm not letting off the gas pedal between gears (mostly 1st to 2nd) I will ask Emil about it.
thanks for the info
