Palo uber intake?

Does anyone have any sound clips or experience with this CAI?
http://1346843.estore.networksolutio...tail.bok?no=97

which is also featured here:
http://www.mini-madness.com/browsepr...ir-Intake.HTML

As cool as the ALTA intake is, I don't want that bee buzzing sound.

I also like the fact that it comes with a precut mod piece.

Thanks for any help

PU is selling the Maddness CAI and calling it their own, they don't even bother to remove the Maddness logos. Buy it from Maddness, the customer support is so much better.

The Alta is quieter when you add the lid.

Also look at the Craven CAI. I think it's one of the only ones that makes a lot of sense. Comes with a top like a DDM but has easy access to see how dirty the filter is. Also is a complete box, not just the top half so you are pulling from the cowl and not hot underhood air.

Palo Uber and MM are distributers for each other. I'm not sure if that is the best venture that George has undertaken, but I agree wtih the above, buy it from MM not PU as it is cheaper.

That being said, I have this intake and love it.

FYI it is only 50 bucks more from PU as they include the cleaning kit and cowl mod. The 199 at MM is only for the filter and housing.

I have heard both the Alta and this one and there is very little if any difference in sound. Remember that the foam filter will perform better and is easier to clean.

The performance of these filters has been debated many times. Part of the problem is in what you consider "performance." Filtering ability? Air flow? These vary over time with use and conditions and the specifications of the filter. Consider the thickness of the filter. The foam on the Alta isn't very thick, while the foam one that comes with the DDM intake is a thicker, 2 layer element. Same can be said with cotton/cloth/etc filters. Some are 8 layer, some are 4 layer, etc. Also worth noting is that the filter that comes with the MM intake has an integrated velocity stack, a feature that is absent in the Alta and DDM foam filters.

But back to the point of this thread, I really can't imagine anyone ordering this intake from PU. Even if it's *ONLY* $50 more, it's the same product that you get from MM. Maybe they'll offer a special "NAM member discount" so you can buy it for the same price as you'd pay somewhere else. Honestly, never in my life have I come across a vendor that specializes in charging a 20-50% premium for imitation and rebranded products. That's quite a niche.

I actually kinda like the "Uber Wing" which is a lip spoiler that you add to the existing factory rear spoiler. But it is sooo overpriced. I bet if they offered it at $150 they'd sell a ton of them.

And their reputation for making fantastic claims about their products doesn't build any trust. Consider this quote from their website regarding the new "Carbon Fiber Uber Wing Extension." They claim:

"Until now, no-one has been able to make a multi-dimensional mold that would follow the multitude of curves and angels for precise mating of the finished product to your existing OEM mini S rear wing. We have developed the technology to manufacture (one at a time) this rigid carbon fiber component using our multi-dimensional mold...We are the only company in the world that has a multi-dimensional mold process that can produce a carbon fiber wing extension with precise fitment and astounding needed down force."

Do they even proof read this stuff before posting it? And I just don't by all those claims. Sure, I'm willing to concede that the product helps downforce and their *wings* reportedly help keep the bonnet clean, which makes sense based on how air flow over & off the roofline of our short hatchbacks. But how could they even substantiate the claims about their manufacturing? I doubt very much that PU is a world leader in the use of carbon fiber in an automotive application.

Palo Uber does'nt know s*** from Shinola, let alone what the hell downforce is.

I am selling K&N intakes for $500 and they are hands down the best in the world. I'll even throw in a custom 8.5 x 11 finger painting by my roommates 2 year old that is Palo Uber quality. I'll let the little poo factory even paint your intake for $10,000 that will give you a 20 whp increase.

I call this one, "Finally. The dog stepped in my crap."

I feel like purchasing the Palo Uber conversion kit for a mere $7,589 consisting of pretty much nothing enhancing performance at all. Oh my bad, they give you 2 of those great antennas that Palo shaped himself inbetween fingerpainting sessions, so I guess it's a deal.

Merge?

This thread is a prime candidate for merging with the 427-post Palo Uber Tuner Lugs topic: https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/interior-exterior/108918-palo-uber-tuner-lugs-what-s-up.html

Don't forget the PU decal, good for at least 20 more HP! Only their decals are wind tunnel tested on a bar in front of an unknown drunk artist talking politics at 4am in Paris......

"Him"?

We've basically figured out that there is no such thing as a world famous artist named Palo Uber.

If a person can paint a pretty picture, does that mean that he can design a high performance part for an automobile? If he exist in the first place... I mean I just left Dan at Grassroots Garage and he's a darn good Tech., but I sure as he... wouldn't want him to paint my picture....

For about $50, about 2 hours and a little modification to the stock box you can get the same outcome as this. The great thing about it is you retain the factory look so nothing looks modded but you still get that same great supercharger whine without the annoyance of it being too loud.

Thanks Mark, and in return for your compliment, I have painted your picture.

Now that will be $10,000 please
