This ought to be JUST about fast enough for you, and should be easier than a MINI to convert to 4WS. Buy the guys a few more donuts and beer and I'm sure they'll work on it for ya...

Good luck...

>>I am just about to purchase my 2003 Mini Cooper S. What I need done to it is extensive. I need AT LEAST to put it up from the 160hp to 200hp (preferably upto 250hp). But, most importantly, I need to have it customized to be 4-wheel steering.

I too was toying with the same kind of mods for my MCS plus a few others. Being a spy some of these this come in handy from time to time. I have the underwater kit installed, but ran into a snag with the particle beams and anti-gravity tires. Can anyone help?

No seriously, I think Jesse would take on a project like that. Remember, he turned a limo into a garbage truck or some such.

With enough money you can accomplish a great deal. The 250hp should be no problem especially if you don't care about warranty issues. The four wheel steering, that's a different story. Besides, the steering radius is already so small I can't imagine a situation that would require a tighter radius, but than again I have never been chased by someone like you!
I would recommend that you go see the movie the Italian Job, if you require more manuverability than the cars in the movie, you probably need a helicopter!

I figure with a flux capacitor and a Mr Fusion, you can move through time easier than doing the 300HP mod along with the 4-wheel steering. That way you wont actually have to sit in the car for hours. Just bomb past your stakeout point at 88MPH!

Besides, adding 4-wheel steering to a MINI which already turns so tight risks having the car turn in on itself, creating localized black holes. Potholes are bad enough with 17-inch wheels.

I have to say, however... 300HP in a MINI would be the dog's bollocks!

Well, let's tackle this 4 wheel steering issue that you want to talk about. First, do you need rear seatS? if not, I'd cut the body out in the back, weld in some tubular bracing, take apart the front of another mini, weld it all in. Then I'd hook up hydrolics to the whole thing to make is steer. And now that ur back there with every thing ripped appart, and a fron wheel system that has the ability to be drivin, hook up some Electric motor's to the rear wheel (front) and drive that sucker for some 4wd, and 4w steering. For the 300 HP. Replace the head, pisctons, rods and all with stronger stuff. Put on a smaller pulley, run C02 cooling on the intercooler, put in a 100 shot of nos, replace the exhaust, upgrade the chip, replace the intake, port and polish every thing and you should be close to that 300 hp mark that you want.

WOW! is this guy for real?

4 wheel steering is possible, it isn't just a gimmick by chevy. Some cars in Japan have 4 way steering.

Oh yeah he might need the submarine option like in Austin Powers, you never know when your suspects might try to flee in a boat!

I thought there was an Acura (or something) at one point with 4 wheel steering where at low speeds the wheels would counter steer to give a much smaller turning radius but at higher speeds it would slightly point the rear wheels the same direction as the fronts to keep the car more linear orientation (i.e. for lane changes). I don't know what ever happened to that bright idea, too much hassle just for the gimmick.

All said, you're still a loon for wanting to put it in a MINI, but I have to admit that it's made for an entertaining thread.

IF some super sluth came looking for something fast I doubt he'd be trolling for a suped up psycho MINI but rather a Z-06 or 350Z or even an Mitsu. Evo VII woud do nicely before you go whipping a little FWD car into a nice lather.

So I'll bite, what is the most interesting thing that's ever happened to you while doing your private investigating?

I think it was the honda prelude. At least it was about 10 - 12 years ago.

it was the early 90's honda prelude designated with the 4ws badging. I was looking for one a while back, never found one in good condition.

General Motors has a place where they take apart entire cars from their competitors and lay all the parts on loooong tables for "benchmarking"...They also have displays of various sub-systems. The only time I was ever there, they had the entire Prelude 4WS system set up without anything else...You could literally stand there and steer the wheel and watch the front tires steer in front of you and the rears behind you. Very cool. Not to hi-jack the thread with something from the "real world" or anything...

The solution is simple, and shouldn't be too expensive, and it has been done before with other similar cars.

Start off with a MCS. Get another MCS powertrain and front clip (see threads dealing with rolled MINIs on eBay). Rip out the rear seats and other interior bits. Adapt the front clip into rear of car, add engine/tranny combo. Merge the wiring, shifting and steering systems to your requirements.

Result? 326HP MINI, 4WD, 4WS, with all the reliability and durability that the factory offers. You might even be able to keep the warrantees alive, after all, you did not mod the engines or transmissions!

And obviously, the more hp the better (I'd love to see 300hp). Nitro is always an option.

Something like this, perhaps?
