I think my upper engine mount has gone

Hi guys

I have an 05 MCS, i have noticed a dark, but almost transparent fluid residue near the upper engine mount.

Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

Questions:

I have only found one after market replacement bushing from IE, are there any else available? Also, if mine has gone, does the new bushing need to be installed on a fresh engine mount?

What are the short/long term problems associated with driving around with a busted engine mount?

Are they easy to swap out/replace bushing?

Looking at minimania.com for replacements - they have top dampers and hydraulic mounts... which is which?

Cheers

Hello,

A lot of these leak, your 05 should still be under warranty,

The dealer will replace that for free.

Gday thanks for the reply...

I was thinking of going the dealer way, but through reading, have found that these items are prone to failure, with some recording 4 failures in the past 2 years.

I'd prefer to replace it with something that will provide a solid performance for the life of the mini.

One thing to keep in mind if your mount is going and starting to leak, you should take care of it sooner rather than later. The stock mounts can spray fluid all over your engine bay when they really go, making quite a mess of things.

Good luck!

Engine Mount bleeding to death

Well, I think my engine mount has expired, or at least is in the process of doing so. I first noticed the inside of the right front wheel was a little extra dirty and it appeared to have some kind of film all over it, then I noticed the same junk coating the wheel well, and speckled all over the brake caliper and suspension. Then I opened the hood and found this.

So, I guess it is time to take a ride to the dealership for this warranty item, and then maybe invest in one of those helpers like the VIP or the TSW adder.
