Thanks for the advice on whistle

Thanks for all the replys on the whistle. Am going to return to the dealer Wednesday. If we can not find anything else will return to stock intake. This whistle is extremely loud, even one of the sales reps. commented on it when my wife drove into the dealership. Drove 4 other S convertibles prior to buying this one. No problem. I understand the supercharger whine, no problems. I would understand if the whistle was present on heavy throttle. This is under light load and continues between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm. If the original box does away with the noise I will try some of the other aftermarket suggestions. The stock intake hose is present from the box to the intake.

Yep - 2,000 to 3,000 RPM is usually where you get it. That's the one I have. You don't get it under heavy throttle because the throttle is open enough to NOT whistle then - imagine a teakettle - with the little whistle cap closed it whistles through the little hole. Open the cap and it doesn't whistle... The JCW intake should resolve it - but not sure what else will...

I always wondered whether the dealer takes off intakes/exhausts when they resell their cars. I figured that they would return the car to stock...but apparently that is not the case. I traded in an Audi A4 cabrio 3.0 w/ an intake on it and wondered what they would do. I guess they left it on.

That intake had more of a sucking sound than a whistle, mind you I only had a filter and bulkhead, not a new tube.

OK - I did more thorough diagnosis of the whistle tonight - full writeup is on my blog.

Short version - it's my throttle - the only thing the intake has to do with it is that a good CAI doesn't block the sound that's already there...

Fix? Probably a JCW intake. I'll probably end up trying that.

The JCW intake did not solve the problem for me, but I do have the flap locked in the open position, which may be the reason why it didn't help

If I ever get the car off of the jack stands, I'll push the flap closed and see if it kills off the whistle. I had the whiste with the stock airbox, too, so I'm not expecting miracles.

Thanks! It would be great if you could test that...

But you're the first person I've heard complain about whistle with the stock box...

Now that I know it's there, I suspect I'd hear it with the stock box, also. But it would be pretty quiet...
