I am still really excited about this.. this is only about 3 miles from my place in AZ... the only down side is it's just too dang hot to be boosting 28 lbs... LOL... but at least I'll know that she's running happier in general.... ofcourse I'll only be there a short time to pic her up and my stuff... then it's back I go... where it's boost weather all the time! LOL and 93 on every pump...

I see... BTW, the 3 is nothing more than garage candy...

93 & 91 octane. You must be joking, i wouldn't put that rubbish in my lawn mower let alone my MCS. Over here in OZ 98 octane is available at virtually every outlet (BP,Shell,Mobil, etc.) & its only 4 cents a litre extra (about $2 a tankful extra), even the rubbish stuff is 94 & 96. We also have 100 octane now from the bowser at selected Shell outlets. Putting high octane fuel in your car is undoubtedly the best value decision you can make.

4 cents more than the normal 94 octane rubbish. We are paying about $1.35 US / litre for 98 octane.
I am constantly amazed at people that winge about the price of hi octane fuel considering the fact that you WILL get more MPG & longer plug life, not to mention the HUGE performance improvement. Higher octane means the ECU will adjust itself to run much more timing & hence more power. Also the car will drive more smoothly.
If your MCS is modified or not & you aren't running at least 98 octane you are missing out on a lot.
My Mini MCS owners manual & my Subaru STI owners manual both recomend running the cars on 98 octane.
I even buy drums of Methyl Benzine & mix it with 98 octane for better performance when i go racing.
I didn't realise you guys had it so bad.

We used to complain that we couldnt buy 100 octane from the pump like they have in Japan but we now have it & hence we now get a lot of the JDM spec cars that you guys also miss out on.

You aren't comparing apples to appples. Australia uses straight RON rating for pump gas rating (last time I checked), In the US of A, our pump gas is an average of the RON and MON(aviation index) rating typically refered to as RdON. That little formula we Americans see on the pump (R+M)/2 refers to this caculation. Typically the RdON runs 10 points lower than straight RON as MON measures a heated fuel charge, at a higher engine RPM, and with variable timing. This lowers the overal MON number, but is more accurate in describing autoiginition under load.

So to sort of compare we would be ROn rating of about 101 for our "91". So those in the easst prt of the country have access to about 103 RON. Race gas is typically 110 RON and above.

Hope that helps.

Hey Joel...I was told by a BMW tech a long time ago that the 3-series ECU (stock) could adapt for fuel up to 96 octane. Anything else would be a waste of money. I wonder what the cap is for a Mini ECU?

Hmmm. Interesting. I don't know the answer to that one, but perhaps Isellem would? I know from a butt dyno standpoint I can certainly tell a difference between 91 and 100, but without having ready access to 96 it is tough to say for sure. I guess you could do dyno pulls with 100 octane and then 110 leaded to see if you get any gains or not. Of course that means you need to run a test pipe as the leaded will kill your cat. I may need to run this experiment here soon.
