Drivetrain Dinan for Mini
Dinan for Mini
Hello, I recently just bought the Dinan CAI and I was wondering if I wanted to purchase the S1 package from Dinan do I have to purchase the other parts separate? Because that would be more expensive than just buying the s1 package. Also does anyone know the nearest Dinan supplier in New Jersey is? Is it just for BMW or for Mini too? I've read other threads about Dinan upgrades and I am really considering it. If others would like to post their pros and cons, that would be sweet.

If you find you have an extra Dinan CAI, you might consider buying the whole S1 kit and then maybe selling the CAI you don't need.
I'm sure there will be a few interested. Somebody in the Vancouver area has his MCS up to the S2 kit. He loves it and I must say, it's a really nice car.

I know I'm late to the party, but it makes no difference price-wise if you buy Dinan as a package or a la carte. The price is exactly the same. Good thing, because I didn't really want the $160 floor mats anyway.
As an aside, I actually saved money by going a la carte because since I was adding a boost kit to an S1 package (minus exhaust - I'm waiting for Dinan's redesigned exhaust to hit in August), I didn't have to pay for software twice. The S1 calls for stage 3 software, but the boost kit requires stage 5 software. Everything that is in stage 3 is also in stage 5, so no need to buy twice.

cooper818, the only problem someone may have buying a la carte Dinan, is that if you use other aftermarket parts in combination you might void the Dinan warranty.
I have seen BMW owners have this problem.
Dinan makes great stuff, I am a big supporter.

Finally!!!
Well it took me a while to install, but I got it done. Removing the old intake was easy, but man it was frustrating putting in the Dinan intake. But boy was it worth it.
As for Dinan bits, people are fond of the suspension, and it seems to favorably compare to the JCW suspension. In all reality, the Dinan suspension is springs of unknown rate (proprietary) matched to adjusted Koni Yellows. Plus there are brackets to modestly increase front camber. Also there is a slight drop as well.
I'm no suspension expert, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express.
Been trying to figure out a Street plus set up without going full adjustable crossovers.
mbotvinick - agreed. However, I think someone that is thinking Dinan is at least in part considering the warranty and likely wouldn't play mix-n-match with other manufacturers' parts. I know I wouldn't, though I must admit it's been hard waiting for Dinan to finally shuffle out this newly-designed exhaust we've been hearing about for a few months; I've more than once considered saying "screw it" and going with the Milltek. My pragmatism will win out in the end, though! Only 3 more weeks, apparently.
For me, it was beneficial to go a la carte because 1) I didn't want the floor mats, and 2) I was gifted the boost kit and throttle body (thanks, honey!), which eliminated the need for the Stage 3 software that comes with the S1. I don't personally know any Dinan owners who have mix-and-matched, but most I know have gone a la carte for various reasons.

I have the Dinan S1 package on my car and i love it
It totally transformed the car into a Beast! It accelerates really smooth though the rpm range, and because of the new software the car can now rev up to 7ooorpm! One of the best investments i did. I still have the rear "Dinan" badge, but undecided if i should put it on the hatch.
Also, i already had the Borla exhaust and CAI on my car, so my Service advisor priced out the S1 kit installed and deducted for those parts.
So yes, you can buy Dinan S1 parts seperately, but you dont get a S1 badge until you have all the parts to make up the S1

I'll chime in here too.... I had the Dinan S1 package installed at (of all places) the Dinan HQ in Morgan Hill. The CAI, exhaust and ECU re-map give it the added HP and TQ. The front shock tower stress bar is just bling, but nice bling at that. I like the sounds it makes, and it pulls fairly strong as well. I opted out of the mats, but still got the badge.
