Anyone else Lime Rock Bound 3/24?

Not sure if anyone else will be there, I'll have my mini up for the NASA HPDE event @ Limerock on 3/24, wasn't sure if anyone else was going.

Weather looks crappy for 4/3 and 4/6. Guess I'll learn a lot anyway!

yeah I'm seeing that too, just take it easy. I'm hoping that it just sticks to the "PM showers" they're calling for than constant rain

Learned the rain line last time out in wet conditions. I told my instructor, "my number one goal of today is to not hurt my car". Mission accomplished.

Slowing it all down really helped me a lot, especially once the regular line started to get dried off.

I was there yesterday, Monday, 4/2, and the track was a bit wet in am (a nice new Ferrari stuffed it on the uphill - too much power, too little brains), no rain, and got better all day.

3 other MINIs there, but only got to chat with one other owner - nice track car, fast!

It was a tremendously FUN day! - I need to do more of this! Haven't been driving Lime Rock for 15 years, at speed, and I sure did miss doing this! Much better than mickey mouse parking lot autocross!

Here's my GP with some buds.

weather was actually, well after it warmed up, gorgeous today. Got to meet mark (mbcoops) and trevor (dkstone), great guys with some cool minis. Trevor was actually my instructor, thanks again riding shotgun with me, I definately learned a ton (I hope I didn't scare the bejesus out of you, esp the spin in the esses). Lime rock is defintaley an wild track, a good blend of technical (big bend and the esses) as well as some ***** to the wall, don't screw this up or you'll be walking home, make you pucker corners (Uphill and diving turn/down hill). With that said I can't wait to go back.

Yea weather was spectacular after some morning fog/cold. All in all a great day, although I was surprised to be without instructor in the HPDE 2 group. The only lesson I learned while I was alone (I had an instructor for 1 session) was to not get on the brakes too abruptly going into the left - I nearly spun but was able to save it ("mental note - that was bad, don't do it again").

It's amazing what a little camber and a rear bar (19mm soft setting) will do for this car's handling at the limit - much more predictable, tossable, informative, and fun than last season!

Great meeting you, Greg; and it was great to see you again, Trevor.

mb

ps - I'll be back on Friday with the CCA, anyone else?

Duch099 the engine is doing just fine, the first session out there was almost no grip and quite a few folks in the instructor group were just taking it slow, the few that did not were having fun slipping and sliding, the day got a lot better after that by the time I went out on my second session the track had heated up and I was able to turn a few 1.09 laps with my student. I had 2 great students today one MINI and one E46 they both did well they made me proud, even the spin in the esses on the last session was a good teaching aid, and a great reminder not to lift when the rear starts sliding ( you got that rpob5t )

Well see you all on Saturday, I still have my snows so at least I will be prepared.

Hey that's me! Where do I find those?
Yes I'd put the bar on soft - watching greg spin out convinced me of that.

Why were you trying so hard to scare your instructor?

I had a great day and two nice students, they did not try to scare like yoy did to yours.

Nice to so a bunch of MINIs at the track

there's a couple of good ones there, god a good shot of mark and I coming off the esses onto no name straight. The good thing is all the pic's of me are before my driver's side a-pillar cover took flight on the front stretch and ended up in the grill of a Z06 (tip: if you have your windshield replaced make sure they replace all the clips or it might come off at 110+mph, luckily the place that did my windshield is replacing it but its def. aggravating). As for the rear bar, definitely go with a 19 mm bar. I've got a H-sport comp bar (24.5mm hollow) it was great when I first got it, but as my driving improved the balance has shifted more towards oversteer (even on the soft hole), probably if you had a bigger front bar to offset it'd be fine, but with the oe SS+ bar it can get a little loose at the limit.

Greg - there's a really cool shot of us ready to pounce on that really slow 'vette in our group. The caption would be something like, "The MINIs stalk their prey in groups, not unlike velociraptors...those are real beeeeeaaauuuutttttssss." haaaaaaaaaaa.

edit - here she is:

this is the one I was talking about, probably the same shot with no slow vette in the way. the first one is a nice shot of me going into the downhill.
