Need your tire opinion - Azenis
I debated whether to put this in the Drivers School thread or the Tires thread, and since it's specifically about the track, I put it here. I have a DE coming up, and I have some holies with 205/50-15 Falken Azenis 615's on them that I've used for a couple of H stock autocrosses. The tires on my 15x7 wheels are pretty well shot from previous DE's, so the question is, how bad would these Falkens be for a DE? It's Justacooper, and I don't have camber plates. I'm not a b=lls to the wall driver, I just like to get out there and try to improve my driving abilites, but I don't want to end up in the weeds or skate around like a raccoon on roller skates. Whaddya think? I know Oldschool used some Falkens on holies, but he had camber plates, I think.
I ran a DE day at Lime Rock with some old Azenis RT215 tires and no camber plates on my Cooper, and had no problems. You should be fine. I was going to get some new Azenis RT615 tires for the rest of the season, but they've been out of stock. So, I got the Hankook RS2 instead.
That's just what I wanted to hear. I know they might not be the greatest, but I think they'll be adequate and safe, at least. I've actually been thinking about trying the Hankook's next time around.
Thanks, snid.
Thanks, snid.
I run on Nitto NT01 r-comps and Oldschool runs the 615s and he and I run very close together on the track. In the extreme Texas heat (104+) he said the 615s did get a bit greasy near the end of a session but still not bad. I ran the 615s before the Nittos.
If it ever got up to 104+ at VIR, I think I'd be pretty greasy, too. I don't see how you guys do it. My compliments. This DE will be in Sept, so it ought to be beautiful up there. Pouring down rain, maybe, but beautiful.
