Interesting and disturbing....
Funny, this forum is about the only one that did not get into this discussion.
Some of you may have seen this topic on IFLYSOLO in another forum. As I said, it's interesting and disturbing. If nothing else it's a warning to look out for a red A4, with lots'a blue tape ..

Every event I've been to has an open and required meeting first thing in the morning. The subject matter is safety, flags etc. However, I've never heard any organization also discuss threatening to remove a student if he or she does not listen. I've heard event organizers say, "if you're having a problem with your instructor we'll get you another instructor." I find these words uncomfortable; Instructors are required to make priorty decisions because their better health and well being is essentially along for the ride, and, they know better! Students are supposed to listen...and at some level should not be in a postion to challenge an instructor. Dare I say, er write, if an instructor is seasoned, he or she will know soon enough how much leadership a student requires...it should pretty much be evident during the warm-up laps...a time when speeds are slow-er and a time when a student should not be over-taxed with speed. In other words, if the line or technique is off at a warm-up pace, a red flag should pop up.
I personally think that organizers should plainly state you may be asked to leave the course if you do not pay attention. I understand the underlying political/marketing/business aspects. But death in a DE event is not tolerable.
Very disturbing Greg. Actually scares me...I've only felt threatened once in a DE event; last fall at LRP. A guy in an older MR2 was passing all over the track - blue group with PDA. After that session his car was parked for the rest of the day. If yer having a bad day, stay off the track...anger and high speed do not make good bed-fellows.

Sad day all around...
In bouncing all over the net looking at linked threads...
1) Bad track set up.
2) Very bad driver(s). Both the bonehead driving the Evo, and his buddy with the video camera.
3) Not the best DE set-up or organization.
They all got put in the blender, and it turned into a very bad mixture.
I'm a west coast boy. There's no track I've been to (but it's a limited list) where you can run off the track and hit anything that isn't supposed to be in a hot area.
But with one of the clubs I drive with, the Evo driver wouldn't have survived the first spin, the marshals would have sent him packing with no refund. Not because he spun, but because he spun and wasn't listening to his instructors.
The bonehead driving the S4 with the video camera has the wrong attitude as well, and has lots of posts defending his actions. He just doesn't get it, but it getting a good reaming on the web....
Sad day overall, one that no one should have to go through. Very worst that should have come out of it is a trashed Evo, but because of the full mix, it was much worse than it needed to be.
