General questions

My '06 PW/B MCS should be here next week, so I'm gearing up (so to speak) for the fun of finally driving something exciting after years of "Mom" cars!
I've always wanted to go to a driving school, but have little or no knowledge about them.
Are there different types of schools? At this point I'm kicking around the idea of Autocross, but still need to learn ALOT more about it. I would also just like to learn to be an all around better driver.
Where do I find info on schools, costs, locations, etc? How do I know if it's a reputable instructor? Are there schools where I can also learn about the car itself? I've always wanted to take some sort of auto shop course, but "girls" couldn't buy their way into that class at my high school.
Anyway, sorry if these are totally neophyte questions, feel free to direct me somewhere else if need be.
Thanks all,
Annette

Hi Annette,
Check out your local BMW Car Club of America: http://www.peachtreebmwcca.org/start.asp
That's what most people recommend for driving schools, although I haven't done one myself. Congrats on the new car!

Thanks for the replies

I am in Alpharetta GA, which is a suburb of Atlanta.
I'm going to take a look at the link provided. Getting jazzed here!

There are many good books about cars in general. If you prefer the web, the web site www.howstuffworks.com has a good auto section that explains a lot about cars with neat animations. To learn more about the quirks of the MINI itself, right here at NAM ain't a bad place!

Annette, the Atlanta MINIS crowd are driving enthusiasts who love to help novice drivers learn to enjoy their car to the fullest. They are very dedicated autocrossers and other car makes consider them a cult . The last two years they have done a MINI only autocross school that was very inexpensive.

The Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy generally comes as close as Talledega Gran Prix in AL also, for on track.

Keep joining in on the Atlanta message board and you will hear of something good that is close to you.

EDIT: I believe some may be autocrossing this weekend if you have a chance to go spectate.
