Track time in Reno, NV
The Reno SCCA is sponsoring a PDX at Reno-Fernley Raceway next weekend, July 12th. There are actually three levels: a PDX or non-timed lapping even (like an HPDE), a club time trial for street cars, and a race time trial for race-prepped cars. On Saturday the 11th they are having a autocross at the same venue. They’re putting up cones on a one-mile subset of the track and have four run groups. There are 23 turns, not counting the A and B business, so you’ll get quite a workout.
The cost for the PDX is $175, and you have to be a SCCA member (all that requires is some $$). No prior experience necessary, but you do have to have your car inspected for safety (essentially you prep it as you would for any track day or autocross). You get four 20 minute runs, typical for this type of event (and it’s amazing at how much that measly 1 hr 20 wears you out!).
Here’s a video of the track:

I did a PDX at Thunderhill with the SFR SCCA, but the chief steward was from Reno since they’ve been doing these a while. It was really fun, and you’ll learn a lot. And the price is cheaper than at many of the for-profit track events, although those are good as well.
