Second Try

Last night was my second night at the drag strip. I shaved over 1/2 second off my best time on my first night out, but that's to be expected since I've added some mods.

I'm still having a hard time hooking up on the launch and in second. I tried launching at 3500 & 4000 making sure not to floor it when launching. I also toyed with shifting to second at 6000, but that didn't help too much.

I read in some of these threads about shifting to 4th early instead of right before the line. With my MTH red line I can keep it in 3rd across the line before the fuel shut off. I'm not sure if it is better to shift to 4th around 6500 to stay in the hp peak or to run it to red line in third across the line.

Here are the details of my fastest run:
8:00 PM, temp 75, 84% humidity

Reaction: .313 (worst of the night, best was .089)
60: 2.581
330: 6.783
1/8: 10.142
MPH: 72.966
1000: 12.956
1/4: 15.456
MPH: 95.119

Do they prepare your track?? if there are a lot of fwd cars at your meeting you might find that the track gets worse as the night goes on.

If you can, try and get there and be first down the track you'll probably find that your 60ft will improve no end.

Other than that another set of wheels and drag radials will help, we were in the consistant 2.0s and 2.1s last weekend on a rwyb track.

Hang it out in 3rd if you can because it saves another gearshift which cost you et.

Always shift 500rpm above your peak power, this maybe an old dragracing story but thats what I've always done. ( most peak rpm on rollingroads seem to be 6500ish)

Good luck next time it sounds like you'll defintley be a lot quicker

Thanks for the input. We waited until about 7:30 or 8:00 after the Sun had been down for a while. I'm not sure what they do to prep the track other than sweep it after each run.

It was a test & tune night so there were some serious racers running right there with us. You could imagine the look on my face when I lined up next to a car that was running 10 second 1/4s and letting up after 1/8s. Luckily he waited till I got down the track before he ran.

I'll be sure to try shifting around 7000 next time instead of redlining.

Thanks again!
