First time using a PC
need to use it this summer on my commuters. its too thick and doesn't
spread well, plus it splats mists of dressing on the fender lip (on other cars)
even if you spread it pretty thin working the applicator several times.
the insane shine on the other hand is very thin, spreads easily, can
easily wipe up excess (no splat mists) and lasts just as long.
haha. i was looking at the pictures of the car last night, and i think i figured out the problem. heres the story:
My dad has been contacted by Prima and is one of their new product testers. In the excitement of being a special product tester, he grabbed the first new Prima product he could find. The label reads:
Catastrophe
Use it once, and your paint will never be the same.
It is basically a bottle of sand, pebbles and chips, and it works best when propelled by a fan or throw at the surface of the car.
Well thats not the case, but he did tell me he has driven his car through hundreds (literally) of automatic car washes.

just went out to dress the tires with the aerosol dressing. man i hate that stuff. i just sprayed it on and spread it with a sponge. maybe i will post a pic of the final product. maybe.

Haha and I LOVE Endurance High Gloss!!! But I bet it has to do with the temperature. Here in California--even though it's in the high 30's right now--Endurance spreads very easily with a foam pad.
Insane Shine is fine for quick dressing--but it doesn't last. Hahah, but it's good that Ken and I passionately disagree about these two products!
But for the last 3 days of detailing, it's been in the low 40's and even M80 is a bit hard to wipe off the cold paint---works fine as you buff, but when you go to wipe it off--it sticks pretty good which isn't fun. Surface temp is very important to consider for any product!

After my first wash and dry, I tried detailing with Slick, but it was a lot of work. I'm thinking of trying Hydro after a wash, and then using Slick to QD in between washes. Just to clarify...would this be a good strategy?
Thanks
Thanks
Slick needs to be used on a previously waxed finish. It is not a wax. Hydro is a wax, but IMO it is not a substitute for a product like Epic. I know OG is using Hydro only, but even he has said that the durability is not as good as Epic. I think you need to start off with a good base wax like Epic, then use Slick to keep it clean and use Hydro to rejuvenate.
I used Slick to clay and on previously waxed or polished surfaces (as stated above), however, after a wash it shouldn't be that hard to use. Try one of the DP dual-pyle microfiber towels and use the short side to wipe down the Slick then the long side to buff. That really worked for me and it looks great afterwords. I also used Slick right after my Epic (after curing) and it looks great. I think i maye finish with Hyrdo jsut for that last touch and to clean up some of the Nero overspray.

Like has already been mentioned, if you're paint is already in great condition--smooth as glass, free of bonded contaminants, washed and cleaned of dust and environmental particles, and has a good coat of wax where you water beads or sheets up, THEN you can maintain that finish by QDing it frequently. Hydro is a great way to lengthen the time between waxes. I've used it dry like a QD but once I tried it on a wet car after rinsing, I love it even more.
Note one of the things I'm doing now to protect my finish is to blow air over it from a small air compressor before I QD it. I can remove 50% of the large particles this way which means less potential to rub this into my paint and cause swirling when I QD.

good tip as i was wondering about this myself. we have a large air compressor that my dad has used in the past to get the water out of the small cracks of his car. i think i may start using this to clean out the gutters, engine bay, and cracks of the car.

Also, I might not say that Slick neeeeds to be used on a waxed surface, but it will work better on a waxed -or- prepped surface (read: clayed and/or cleansed). As OctaneGuy basically points out below, a surface which is not already smooth (due to contaminants, etc) can make QDing a little more difficult because your cloth is likely to drag a bit.
If your surface isn't super smooth, try claying and/or using a paint cleanser (ie, P21S Paintwork Cleanser, Prima Amigo, or Four Star Pre-Wax Cleanser). It sounds like you may need an annual paint cleansing if you found Slick a little difficult.

Just got my Hydro and I Epic-waxed my car in October (it's still holding up well but could use a refresher), so I'll have to bring along the Hydro the next time I wash the car. If it ever stops raining here in Ohio, anyway (sigh)...
Great tip!!

that's why we know we have honest responses. cant agree oneverything. but insane shine does last just as good.
they put "endurance" on the label just to test your endurance of
patience. lol
And so strange, because usually ken seems so rational.
I gotta say, I'm with OG on this one. I can't imagine how ANYTHING could be easier than applying Endurance to my tires with the curved foam applicator... squirt a little one, wipe it around, done. 30 seconds per tire, tops.

woh wa... wo...
you guys need to try insane shine back to back with endurance.
and you will know what i mean.
endurance = blob blob blob.
insane shine = so smooth.
hahaha. no worries, if it doesnt work out, i will go your route. ultimatly the price will make the decision.
Finally had a chance to play with my new PC and put the info from OctaneGuy's DVD to good use. Even though I didn't have all the various polishes required to do a complete job on my daughter's 2002 Civic I was truly amazed at the results - so was she.
Now all I have to do is wait for my order from Detailer's Paradise to arrive and then spend some quality time with my wife's MCS this weekend.
Thanks for getting me started OctaneGuy and Heather.
