Wax on Chrome?

Hey guys, just had my MINI waxed at a local car wash on Saturday (i know i know... working 7 days a week i didn't have time to do it myself)...

well today i came out and noticed there was alot of wax on the chrome, it was easy to rub off , but i was just wondering as i've never waxed before, if it's common to wax chrome? i also found some wax on my cowl vents and alot under my spoiler...

over all i'm happy with the wax job, the clay bar could have been done better, but i guess no one will show your MINI the love you will. So i've decided to start washing and waxing myself and was just wondering if waxing the chrome is normal...

thanks for the input guys

I don't wax my chrome for the simple reason that the shape and location of the chrome pieces on the MINI would make it very difficult to remove from the edges.

I've owned other cars where that wasn't a problem and yes, I did wax the chrome on those cars. Doesn't affect the appearance, as far as I could tell. Also offers some minor protection from the elements since you don't install clearbra on top of chrome.

all this time i was thinking he was talking about chromed wheels....

i personally do not wax the chrome trims because it is too close
to the rubber trim/seals, but if you use a product like Ice, NXT,
M21 (from the reading) wax should not be of concern.

Personally, I wax it with Epic and then just use a QD spray like Slick and wipe it down when I do the rest of the car. Sure makes it shiny; I like shiny things.

I've always waxed the chrome on all my cars - I know there are dedicated chrome products, but it's never hurt and seemed to help preserve shine & finish. I use Klasse so proximity to plastic/rubber bits didn't matter

I use Zaino...chrome gets "waxed" ( not really a wax but you know what I mean)

I've always waxed the chrome to protect and shine, but it is very close to the nooks and cranies that collect wax. The cowel vents are a PITA to get the wax out of. They pop off very easily, so I just remove 'em now before waxing or sealing.

There are lots of other threads about how to get wax residue off of the black plastic... I think there is a stick thread in this forum about it. Different solutions I've heard of are peanut butter, peanut oil, veg. oil and several different types of alcohol.

I use griot's chrome polish. It really is super stuff. I forgot to clean my new mini's twin tail pipes since I purchased the car about 2 months ago. Last week I got out their polish and swiped it clean after a short while of rubbing. Griot's is a white thick pastey liquid that has a fast drying sort of wax in it. It definitely shines and protects the surfaces of the chrome on the mini. I use it every time I wax, works super well. (I was once a month)
