California Wiper?
Screw that. Two words for you:
LEAF BLOWER
Gets 85% of the water off, and all of it out of the nooks and crannies. VERY effective.
Those "water blades" scare the bejesus out of me, second only to chamois. The inherrent possibility of surface debris getting caught between the blade and the paint is just too risky for my tastes, ie it's just a nasty scratch waiting to happen.

OK, so:
California duster = Good
California wiper = Bad
p.s. I tried a chamois and hated it! Too much work and it didn't even dry the car all that well.

I might have to combine these two. Now, to buy a leaf blower...

Unlike when dealing with leaves, an electric leaf blower can be better for your car.
Just be careful if you use a blower with a motor as it can eject exhaust and oil onto your car.
Electric leaf blowers are cheap, too.
See ya,

I used my blade once, couldn't stand it... it seems to talk longer, and leave more water on then towels/chamois...
(Ok.. so my wife wins one point on the "Do you really need that?" list.. *sigh*)

I agree with you on that. I couldn't figure out where the scratches came from on my MINI and my BMW until it finally dawned on me. It's the darn blade!
If you do use one, make sure you hose off the car once more before using the blade.

Best way to dry your car is to drive it at 100+MPH
Gotta agree with the leaf blower though...
The other thing that helps is after you're all done washing and rinsing your car turn your hose down so that it's barely on and then just let the water "oooze" off of your car. The surface tension pulls most of the water with it rather than blasting it and leaving 600,000,000,000,000 water dropplets on it...

Or, using similar rationale, pouring a final rinse from a bucket can accomplish a similar result.
In my experience, this seems to work especially well if you can park the car on a slight grade.

>>100mph = 100 bugs per hour smashed on your clean car.
Here in PHX there seems to have been a recent bug hatching (we got a couple of heavy rain showers come thru). Lately I get about 500 bugs per day on my car. It's getting really annoying. Some days are less than others. Anyone been seeing this in other parts of the country?

Been using the leaf blower{electric} since my wife bought one for me about 4 years ago. You just have to be real careful with the snout of the blower and not bonk your MINI with it. She uses one of those blades on her GTP, sure looks like it would scratch easily. By the way, My black mirrors have three coats of wax on them,{ the car is only 800 miles old,} and everytime I dry them with a cotton towel, they show more scratches. I'm sure glad I didn't buy a black car!!
