Coloring leather?
Coloring leather?
I've ordered English Panther Black seats which unfortunately are really English Panther Gray. Considering contacting a pro auto upolstering shop and getting them darkened to more of a black. Good idea? Bad idea?
My thought is, yes that could be done. I don't feel as though it would be near as durable as the original finish. I'd be afraid it would wear off after a time & look pretty bad.
I have done research on recoloring leather and what I heard is that it is not very possible to "re-color" leather via dye because it is a finished leather. The only options I found was re-upholstery (thousands$$$) or leather paint, which I ended up using (cost $10). Yes, the finish is a bit different but so far it has not shown any signs of wear. It was recommended to me by a huge upholstery shop. If you are interested see here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...=leather+paint . If you go another route, please let us know what you did and the cost as I and others are interested.
we ordered an '06 with the English Panther Leather seats and would like to get the JCW leather dash with red stitching. I'm considering getting the grey piping dyed to match. Think that paint would be a better choice? Should be easy enough to prep the area to do it. The local leather repair place does a dye job and is affordable.
