Sticky Buttons

Had the car little more than a year now. Last year, two weeks into ownership, some latte was splashed on the head unit by a careless passenger. The "4" and "5" buttons now stick annoyingly when pushed. It is especially bad when it is cold like it is now. I have tried to take a damp paper towel and slide it in the cracks, but have not been able to rid the buttons of whatever is back there. Anyone have any ideas on how to successfully clean the back of the buttons without ruining things further?
Thanks.
TJM

I'd try using an electronic cleaner like this one:

immediately followed by concentrated compressed air.

Repeated cycles of these two steps might be able to dissolved and blow out the junk that's preventing consistent electrical contact.

I agree with the electrical cleaner idea. It's safe to blow in there and will not harm the electronics. It's also available at places like Radio Shack locally. I use this stuff all the time.

Personally, I would remove and disassemble the head unit, getting into the actual buttons and cleaning them. The only way to be sure to remove anything stuck in there. But that is only if you are comfortable with disassembly.
