Brand New Mini - My Interior Nightmare

First my story: I've just had my New MINI for about a week and a half. Its great, very happy with everything. My sister got married on Saturday, so Me, my wife and best friend and his wife climb into the MINI. Great wedding, everything is fine. We go out to celebrate after. Had a good time. My best friend has a bit too much to drink.. He doesn't realize this until we are 30 minutes from home. Spews all over my car.

Yeah. So much for enjoying the new car smell...

Anyway, I've got it almost cleaned and back to being nice again. Even had to pop off the door panel and clean behind there. Oh yeah. I have the space grey cloth interior on top of it. Can you help me with suggestions for cleaning products for the seats, and something to take out the smell... ugh. Got to start interviewing for a new best friend too... heh.

Thanks in advance....

I was using some Woolite foam cleaner which slill left some staining, and I was not too impressed with, I'll give the Febreeze a shot though... Has anyone had any experience with steam cleaning? You think this may not be a good thing with seats with warmers in them?

I have a bunch of messy kids and cream carpets in my house. I love Folex spot remover. It's not toxic or harsh and gets rid of all "organic" based stains beautifully. It leaves behind no odor whatsoever, and no perfume, so maybe you could even get that new car smell back. Good luck!

Edit: About the steam cleaning, try calling a reputable auto detailing place and ask them what they'd do in your situation. They should know about the heated seats.

Take it to a professional detailer. And, definitely, get a new best friend.

re brand new mini interior nightmare

My best friend has a bit too much to drink.. Spews all over my car.

Buy "odor mute" from petsmart or other large pet supply store. Use this prior to using anything else. The enzymes eat away biological "byproducts". Good luck. You'll have to get to the source of the odor (the wet carpet, etc), then take a wet vac and vac it out.

Go to the Pet Store an get some Nature's Miracle which contains an enzyme that eats urine, feces, and vomit. The smell will dissipate within 12 hours after use.

Most excellent!!! Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I think I may try the -enzyme eating application, sounds like it should be great! Now I just need to get some anti-depressants to handle this violation of my MINI... sigh....

Try coffee! No, not the wet stuff you drink, but the unused coffee gounds straight from the can. Sprinkle some over where your "friend" spewed, let it sit overnight, then vaccuum.

I second the 'pro' recommendation.

I third using a professional detailer for this - and if your friend is any kinda decent person he'll offer to pay to make the car right (even if it takes new seats covers and rear floor mats if needed, which in my opinion, is probably the only solution to getting the car back to its new, pre vomit, state).

Good luck

This reminds me of a similar story. My wife was throwing a bachelorette party and I somehow was "volunteered" to be their driver. The ladies spent about 5 hours bar hopping in SF.

End of the night comes around and the bride-to-be hurls in the car for what seemed to be 3 or 4 continuous minutes.

The good news: it was a rental.

You know that story about they guy who was upset because he had no shoes until he met someone who had no feet?

We once had a new car, leather interior, and our dog decides to have MASSIVE diareaha, as in MASSIVE in a two seater.

Consider yourself LUCKY!

While you are dealing with the wait, sprinkle a LOT of Arm and Hammer baking soda in any fabric areas. It will soak up odors. Let sit overnight or longer.

I'll second the vote for the enzymatic cleaner... you can get it in the pet isle of most grocery stores for dog/cat urine 'accidents'

Test it on the fabric in an inconspicious spot first to make sure it doesn't stain, but I've used this stuff on several fabrics in my home with no problem.

WARNING - the seat covers are not sold separately, come only in the foam/cover package - and are about $350 per SECTION. That's rear cushion, two backs, 4 for the front - over $2500 plus about $50/panel for install.

Back when I was in my early 20's and taking road trips for a long weekend was fun (driving 24+ hours somewhere with a co-driver, no stops), my best friend Marc and I went from Detroit to Phoenix to hang out. GREAT TRIP, driving was just as much fun if not better than the destinations (grand canyon, flagstaff, downtown Pheonix, etc.).

Anyway, we had a great last day in the city, got a good start home after morning rush hour. He was driving first, but after about 45 min felt realyl bad, and we switched. We were in his brand new Pontiac Sunfire GT, I think it had maybe 8,000 miles on it after our trip. So we hit the interstate, and he lays the seat back to get some rest, just kind of holding his hand to his head and trying to relax (big guy, bout 400 lbs. at that time). I don't remember what we ate the night before, but it wasn't anything too unusual, possibly McDonalds - I remember how funny it was to see a big jar of hot peppers on the counter like places in the south sell big pickles - those things are EVERYWHERE! No he didn't have one BTW, and neither did I

Anyway, all of a sudden he yells out to pull over, he doesn't feel good! I'm in the right lane and slam on the brakes - he makes it fine and opens the door, gets out, bends over and hurls all over the place. I thought, good, well at least he got whatever it was out of him, he'll feel better now!

No.

This happened again and again, like clockwork, every 30 minutes for the next 2 hours. We stopped for gas and I got him a box of kitchen trashbags, so I wouldn't have to keep pulling a pit stop unexpectedly. That worked GREAT! Now he could hurl, which wasn't much anymore, just heaves and whatnot, and we could just tie it, toss it in back and trash it later. OK, so the day went on, he was feeling ok now. We stopped for lunch mid afternoon and I wanted to keep driving. So we get down the interstate, and he's going to take a nap, since his strength had been pretty well sapped from the morning. He dozes off for about...yep...30 minutes or so. WAKES UP in a flash, and I knew what it was without even hearing him start to say it. Unfortunately - I was in the left lane, and there was no way I could get over...and he didn't have a bag ready, since he thought it was over. I was in the process of getting over, and he said somehting like...not gunna make it...but with obviouslsigns of chunks in his mouth already. This is where it got bad.

HE STARTED ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW to yak. At about 55mph. And he didn't lean out. He sat up a bit, mearly AIMED his mouth at the openeing - notice, not fully open, window, and let it fly. More like, let it spill. Or project. Or well, you get the idea. Red liquid, chunks of I don't know what, stringy stuff, sticky stuff, SMELLY stuff for sure - was now on the side of the car, on the window, IN the door, SWIRLING around the cabin from the air flow, on the celing, both seats front, back, sodes - the doors, ME, the dash - you name it it got hit. When a good splash hit me in the face I almost retaliated on the spot, but was JUST coming to a stop on the shoulder, and I swallowed my own before getting out my door and letting my sympathy yak go all over the shoulder.

Needless to say, the car was not so fresh after that. Some of it NEVER came out till the day he sold it 6 years later. The white sneakers I had one were permanently stained pink in areas. I never let him live it down

Hi all! Been meaning to give everyone a thank you and an update to my interior 'issue'... I ended up trying the Nature's Miracle Enzyme cleaner that trico suggested. I was a bit skeptical about how effective it would end up being (especially for the price). I am happy to say that it got rid of all my stains AND odor.. Its like a big eraser that's gotten rid of any trace of mess.

Trico, THANK YOU! And everyone else, thanks very much as well... Ive still got a little new car smell left in my car to enjoy

I dumped a gallon of Roundup in the boot coming home from Home Depot. Then I went out and bought the tray liner! Sort of like buying an alarm after you been robbed! Still stinks but I have no weeds in boot!
