Use the Appropriate Product for the Job
Try NXT All Metal Polysh
NXT Generation All Metal Polysh cleans, polishes, and protects all wheels, stainless steel exhausts, chrome air intakes and valve covers, aluminum, brass, copper, silver and all other bright work components. Meguiar’s Microscopic Diminishing Abrasive Technology (MDAT) removes built-up oxidation, tarnishing, and staining faster and safer than traditional harsh abrasives. Anti-corrosive technology locks in the shine. Use a High Tech Applicator Pad or Even Coat Applicator to apply and remove residue with an Ultra Plush Super Terry or Supreme Shine Microfiber

yea that's not chrome, thats polished aluminum so its not damaged just need 2use that stuff OctaneGuy shows above. it might not bring it back up 2luster like all the rest of it cuz that wax might of been 2abrasive but try it might work.

my '04 has the chrome bumper strips..only one of them seems not to come clean, there is also some film or lack of luster on it, even after claying, using Turtle Wax
chrome polish and even after NXT wax or zaino..,..it just won't come clean and shiny....any suggesions or is it maybe defective and the chrome on this piece is failing?

Actually there is a thin foil of chrome plating over the plastic. The trim that's mentioned in this thread--I removed mine of my 2003 Cooper and you could see the plating. I've had no issues with using the NXT All Metal Polysh to shine up the chrome. Maybe this is true of other metal polishes, but not so with NXT.

I still think that owners need to be aware of the materials used in building the MINI. Use on the "chrome" what you would use on your paint, and you will be doing the least damage.
I noticed on some plastic pieces that cover my lug bolts are made of similar chrome. The process looks really fascinating actually. In my opinion, it is better than classic chrome! Whe I saw was plastic, coated in copper (how this occurs, I do not know) then the copper picks up the chrome in a electric chrome process. Simple little lug bolt covers from ebay, but they always look beautiful and they are made of real chrome. Better I say in the sense that they are flexible but retain shape and also can be polished and protected.
