Fixing pesky floor mat attachment thingies

These always come loose, looking for suggestions on how to keep them in place, short of gluing them in place. Ideas and thoughts welcome

New ones or wrap thread with strong tape.

Then glue?

I recently bought a new set of carpet floor mats for my R52 and they came with those disks. I haven't installed them yet because there are no holes in the carpeting on my MINI and I can't figure out where they mount. Are there holes through the carpet and through the metal floor for those to push into? Unless they go through something firm to catch the barbs then they will continue to come up with your mats.

Some will gasp at this - but I reattached the retainer by drilling small holes in plastic & carpet then used black thread. Used very small drill bit, like 1/16 inch. Run the drill backwards thru the carpet so it doesn't bunch up the fibers.
