Steering Wheel Control Repair

R56 Cooper S with black steering controls rubbing off. Any recommendations for a good easy fix here without removing the wheel? Any experience with after-market stickers or recommendations for a place to get them from?

I’m guessing that you’re talking about the satin black trim pieces on each of the steering wheel spokes. If so, I’m having the same problem with the bottom trim piece and I’m looking for a solution as well.

The trim pieces are removable if you first remove the central horn/airbag module in a procedure that requires battery disconnection. Once you’ve done that, you can try wrapping them with any of the vinyl wraps from 3M or putting in new pieces. I tried painting one with black plasti-dip. Miserably ugly failure - not recommended. I’ll probably end up buying the replacement piece with the JCW logo for $60 or so.

Looking forward to hearing creative solutions from others!
