HELP! Scratched black plastic trim.
A fear of mine has finally come to pass. While getting his bike from the garage my son accidentally put a scratch in the left rear black fender trim (missed the paint - yeah!). I feel bad. He feels worse. What's a dad to do? I've told him not to worry, I'm not mad.
Now what can I do to make it (sorta) go away? Is there anything that will cover it up?
Calling all experts... You are my only hope. Many thanks.

If the scratch is not too deep you can either sand it out with really fine 400 to 600 grit sandpaper and finish it with a vinyl or rubber treatment product or just try treating it with the vinyl product directly if it is superficial.
I use Zaino vinyl and rubber treatment solution and that works pretty good. You can check the older posts to see the other products people use on the wheel arches to keep them looking new.
If the scratch is quite deep then you will need a coarser sandpaper first then work up towards finer sandpapers and then finish with the 600 grit. you're only trying to smooth the scratch out a bit not remove every last bit of it or you will make the finish entirely smooth which won't match the slightly textured surface of the wheel arch.
good luck.

Simply call your local MINI dealer.
The plastic pieces are inexpensive... the total which is approx (13) pieces ...are less than $150.
If I recall correctly....the piece you're in need of is approx $12.
Peace,
D

TWELVE BUCKS!? Are you serious? I didn't think there was anything automotive left anymore that didn't cost hundreds of dollars!
I will definitely look into that. I will also probably invest in some sand paper and rubber/vinyl treatment, stuff I should have around anyway. In addition, this is one more sign that I need to organize the garage...
Many thanks to all for the advice.

The trim is textured. Sanding it will mave it smooth and "fugly". Don't waste your time. Buy a new piece.
