2009 Tachometer Cleaning?
2009 Tachometer Cleaning?
Hi all - I am new here. I have a 2009 Mini Coupe.
I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to clean the tachometer 'glass', specifically, there is dust behind the lens that is driving me crazy!! It seems to get in where the buttons are for set/reset.
I am considering removing and disassembling the tach. Is there a procedure to remove, disassemble and replace the unit safely? Thanks in advance for any advice ...

There are two Torx screws behind the Tach that when removed allow the tach to slide forward and off a track.
I am not sure if the siring harness plugs into the tach or if the tach has a harness that plugs into the steering column but it should be one way or the other.
Then there are three screws ont eh back of the tack that when removed will allow the tach front and back to be separated.
Good luck.
It's very easy and can be done in a few minutes. No need to disconnect the battery or reprogram, and won't void your warranty.
