Shinin' some wheels
Shinin' some wheels
My weekend project. What does an Obsesive compulsive detailer do when the tire shop scratches a rim?
I tried to polish out the scratch but no luck. I knew it would drive me nuts and they were cheap, so I ordered a new wheel from Tire Rack and decided I would turn the scratched one into a cord holder for the garage.
I used aircraft stripper to take of the clear and paint. This stuff is wicked.
I figured that would be it, strip and polish. It was raw pitted aluminum under the paint. I sanded by hand 80,120,240,400,600,800,1000. Then I used a polishing kit with felt buffs on a drill and three different rocks. Then finally the metal polish blue magic on a rag. I taped off the face of the spokes and painted the edges. Far from perfect but it will be cool mounted on the wall.
Here's the wheel Sport edition cd

Thanks Ken, well these were only $99 at tire rack so that was a pretty easy decision.
The tire shop offered to send it out to get it fixed. I said no, don't worry these are my winter wheels. I didn't think I'd be happy with a fix either. So far the tire shop has fixed my screw in the tire, remounted the tire to the new wheel , a couple drinks at the bar and flat repairs for life. And I got a new electrical cord holder
