Prima Noob

Well I ordered some more Prima products from DP. The order came in yesterday, which was faster than expected. However, I was disappointed in the condition it came in, I guess it was the handling and the shipping, because the bottles were all squished when I opened the box. Don't get me wrong I will surely order from DP again. I just hope on my next order this doesn't happen again. Now on to my questions.

My order was Prima Slick, Nero, Wheel Shield, and the Prima polish bundle and since I didn't want to buy a PC I bought the Paradise Skinnies. Can the Paradise Skinnies be washed and reused? The bundle came with (Cut, Swirl, Finish, and Amigo) I was just wondering in which order do I use this on my Mini. I've read that some people say that Cut shouldn't be used on new cars. Since my car is an 04 it is safe to use Cut right? Also I didn't buy a clay bar, is it necessary? I just started getting into the detailing process, so I don't want to cause any problems that I will regret later on. Also can the Paradis Dual Pile Microfiber be used to dry a car? I watched a video and the person used 2 microfiber towels then 2 waffle weaves to dry the car.

Thanks in advance

I wash my skinny pads - I actually just throw them in the laundry with my MFs...some people are pickier than that but they're cheap so I don't worry about it much. I polish with a PC so I have no knowledge of what I would use to apply the polishes by hand with. Your car is only 2 or 3 years old, you should NOT need to use Cut unless your paint has serious oxidation or other issues - in which case, if you think you have major issues, I'd recommend taking some pictures and posting them here to let the experts have a look, just to be sure. Cut is for big-time paint issues.

As far as the polishing - I WOULD clay before I polished. No sense in potentially drilling stuff into the paint, and later on it can compromise the adherence of the wax. The good news is you can get a Meguiar's clay kit or Clay Magic kit at a local auto parts store that has a decent detailing selection - either of these work just fine.

Drying the car - waffle weaves work better, they're just more absorbent, but any microfiber you have on hand should be fine. You're just going to polish the car out anyway.

Good luck with the detail! Take some before and after photos!

Regarding the bottles being squashed - I've experienced this too. I believe it has something to do with environmental conditions. Either the box was transported by air (at altitude the bottles which contain higher pressure than the cargo hold vented some air - then at lower altitude the bottles contract aka dent in to compensate - sometimes my toiletries do this in checked baggage) - or it may just be the difference in pressure from Denver (DP) to where you are (I'm near sea level - are you?).

But the boxes in my case are NOT mishandled (they're perfect) and things are packed well by DP, and I know they didn't leave the store that way (Heather is too ****, God bless her ).

Well I live in NJ, so I'm guessing the pressure could be a result.

yah, denver is 5000ft and above which is like a mountain if it was
here in cornland... i mean, chicagoland.

i guess you now know the seals on the bottles work very well.

my Slick gallon bottle arrived with a little dent from pressurization
which I might PDR down the road.

My bottles were also dented but I wasn't worried because the seals were ok. I think Blimey's right about the pressure. Next time you fly somewhere pack a jar of jam with you and see what it looks like when you land! It's pretty cool. Ok- enough said.

I'm also a Prima noob. I only have swirl, epic, and hydro right now. OG said that doing the polishing by hand would not get the same result as a machined job, and I completely agree. However, for now I'll have to do it by hand. Is it necessary to use a polish like Finish or Amigo after Swirl or can I go straight to Epic?

if you work in the Swirl down to when it starts to dry up you should be
fine as the abrasives would be diminished well. imho, i think you can
get the same results doing it by hand, it just takes a long long long very
long time.

I guess I'll just skip the shoulder/chest day at the gym when I do it! I'll have the EMT squad standing by.

Finally, you have come up with a valid reason for me to keep my car clean. Why have you wasted all this time talking about shine?????

Since this thread is active now, I hope I can tack on a related question here. I just tried Slick for the first time and used a Monster Fluffy. How long can the Slick and stuff it removed stay on the towel before it's washed? Since MF towels are best washed only with other MF products, it seems wasteful to wash a single towel.

I'd say indefinitely.... I have a big bucket in my garage that collects dirty MF towels. I wash them when I start running low. Sometimes that's every two weeks - sometimes thats once every two months. So far, no problems with my Monster Fluffies.

sooner the better as the bug chemicals could react with the fibers,
but i usually have my MF towels sitting around 3-4 days with no issues.

I'd be interested in seeing a lab test on this - if bug guts really will react with MF fibers -

Paul - If kenchan says it is so, then it is so . You dare not question the ken of ken's!
BTW Paul, got the handles installed over the holiday, they are great! Thanks for the opportunity, I'll have to post a photo.

Yeah - I know I'm playing with fire (or love bug guts or something) by challenging ken on such a topic... but I haven't poked a polar bear at the zoo lately, so I figured what the hell...

Glad the handles worked out for you!

Forget the towel. A new for of super-absorbent bug could develop, which could suck all your blood out in 10 minutes.

Who needs a new bug for that? Heather has already sucked out all my blood.

bug guts are acidic so im sure it does react with MF, but to what degree,
im not sure. i'm more worried about the shells (or body parts)
remaining in the towel. even if the gut juice does not damage the MF,
the juice can harden and shape itself to the MF making it harder for the
shells to come off during the wash.

after each wash i inspect the towel one by one to make sure there
is nothing remaining in the towel which could cause scratches in the
paint.
