I was taught by a detailing fanatic to not push or pressure the clay, just to keep it moving/lubricated and keep kneeding the clay. Not sure if this is correct, but it works great.

How long does the clay last???

OK assuming you don't drop the bar...how long can you keep using the clay? Can you re use it as long as you can knead it and get clean clay to rub on the surface?

I just did my car and my wife's car this weekend...now do I keep the clay or chuck it? There's definately are some suspended particles in the clay now. Is it best to just start with fresh clay each time?

So...okay. I use about 1/3 bar to clay my MINI. But it depends on the size of the bar; that's a Griot's bar and theirs are pretty big.

Anyway.

I use it until I can't get a clean section anymore. Usually, with 1/3 bar of Griot's clay, that's good for one use.

Then I relegate it to the "glass and wheel clay" container.

Do you wash your car first? Haha, i get about 8-10 cars out of Griots clay. Big bar. Even if Ken doesnt like it.

Great info in the prior posts. Thanks to all.

I'm a new MCS owner (at least I hope to have mine by this coming week). Mellow Yellow 2007 MCS with black roof and black bonnet stripes. I've opted for the Invisishield invisible bra for the front end. The dealer wants to sell me the Simoniz treatment, but I'm not spending that $500 on something that I can do for $20. So here's my question: If I get the Invisishield that covers part of the hood and front end, and I also do some waxing and finish treatment of my own over the years, will the paint under the Invisishield fade before the paint on the rest of the car? If so, any ideas how I prevent the fading?

The paint may fade a bit under the clear bra but most places will stip the surface of any wax they install the clear bra. You are on the right track with not wanting to pay them to seal you car. Take have that money and get a machine polisher and some wax and do it yourself once or twice a year(you will find yourself doing it more than that if you hang around these boards much) If you notice the paint under the bra fading in a few years, go ahead and take it off, polish it up, then rebra it. you should still be ahead in money.

Hmm...I don't know...unless it's being used on the Yukon without my knowledge (entirely possible, with the crap that's been going on around here lately!!!!!)...

That would explain a lot, actually...
