Clear Bra Removal w/Stripes
Clear Bra Removal w/Stripes
Does anybody have tips on removing the clear bra from my car? I have one of these, and it has been great, but it has been on for nearly four years and is looking dull. I am looking at removing it and replacing it. However, I do have white stripes on my BRG car, so I want to know the best procedure for this.
Another option would be to put new life into the clear bra. Anyone have detailing tips for this?

Only one way to find out. Peel the sucker off slowly, and see if you can keep the stripes intact. I dont think anyone is going to be able to give you a 100% for certain answer, its just a risk you are going to have to take.
And maybe use some goo-gone or alcohol spray to help ease things along...
Worst case scenario, strips are like $80 tops for a custom set. So it could be worse if you had to replace them!

im not sure if i'd remove the bra after so many years unless im going to have
it repainted.
i would try some plastic polish and wax to get the dullness out. mine's been
on there for about 4yrs too and it's not dull.

Ahh!! if the stripes are under the bra then you should be ok. Just take your time around the stripe edges and they should stay stuck to your bonnet.

If that was a 3M clear bra and it had been on there for more than a year DONT worry about the stripes cause they are getting replaced FOR SURE. Worry about the paint... I took a 3M clear bra off with heat and adhesive remover and STILL removed a layer clear coat in one spot. Ripped right off
Done. Not too scary, but the stripes will need replacing because of the noticeable difference between what was under the bra (nice, clean white) and what wasn't (kinda dirty).
I didn't even have to use a heat gun. I just left it out on the sun for a few hours, pickeed a corner and started (slowly) peeling. Whole job took about twenty minutes. I will have to get some adhesive remover for the intake scoop, but it looks great otherwise.

Cool, yeah I did this yesterday to an early model 2002/2003 Chili Red as well and it came off pretty easily. The vinyl was almost brittle, but with careful removal it came off in mostly one piece. The paint underneath was nearly perfect, but the exposed paint was severely neglected. I compounded the paint to even up the visual differences. Haven't checked it in the sunlight yet to see how much of a color difference there is, but the owner is putting back stripes again, so shouldn't be an issue.
