Do I need to wash after Prima Swirl or Finish?
Do I need to wash after Prima Swirl or Finish?
Just wondering on how to go about this. I plan on using Swirl and following that up with Finish, do I need to rewash the car before next applying Klasse or Epic?
For Epic the answer is a resounding NO. Swirl and Finish, like Amigo are polishes so they actually clean your paint of any remaining nasties. The products are water-based and oil free so there is no residual after the polish is removed.
Not that you asked but I would recommend that after using Swirl you stop and examine your paint. Chances are it will be smooth and swirl-free and the Finish step will be rendered moot on a MINI. I usually follow Swirl with Amigo which will fill those remaining small swirls that I missed. I've only used Finish once and did not see any incremental gain from it. In fact if my paint would ever be relatively swirl-free I would just use Amigo before applying Epic.

Thanks minimaybe. The reason I had for asking was that I was worried the perhaps some of the missed unbroken down abrasive may be hiding in some of the crevices and could get picked up while applying the sealant possibly applying some scratches back to the finish. Also, I figured that if I didn't have to rewash, then that would same me from having to retape the car.
First, the abrasives in Swirl are dimensioning meaning they breakdown while using. If you polish until the Swirl gets hazy dry-like then the abrasives have probably been used up and are no longer doing any work. Second, even in Swirl the abrasives are very fine and will not by themselves scratch your paint, they need some movement and force. Using a black pad for Epic would minimize any force (it is really soft) and would therefore not likely give any remaining Swirl enough force to scratch. That said, you will still want to try to remove all Swirl from your paint before doing Epic, as best you can anyway.
I know everyone has an opinion about tape (I choose not to tape at all) but I would like to point out that the Prima polishes are water-based and will not stain your trim. Epic can stain so I first apply Wizards Black Renew to my trim and then I'm just careful to avoid hitting my pad with Epic on the trim. Like I said though, everyone does their own thing so if taping works for you go for it.
