I was looking at the map (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...ate=md&zipcode=) for some twisties and depending on where we meet, when we meet, and where people are coming from, Patapsco Valley State Park might be an idea. From there we could then pick up 695 toward *** Point. I would be willing to do a test run, to see what's out there and what's the best way to go, kinda formulate a plan, pull out the map, and go from there.
That would be great Wendy! I don't know when I will be able to get up there to do a test run. Find someplace easy to get to for people coming from DC/VA area. I know where that park is and if you think that would be a good starting point, I say go for it! I will look at the map tomorrow when I get off work, I promise!

Jeremy, you know this area the best. Have a look at a map around your area and see if you can find some fun roads. Remember we will be rolling in at dusk, so a run may be out. but look at the surrounding area. I don't know if people will be up for some chow either, so let me know what is around there.

Twisties and chow suggestion

Just lurking and not a DCMM member - yet, but, depending on your schedule and what Jeremy comes up with, I have a suggestion. I'm not sure about finding twisties when you get over by Essex. Most of the roads in that area lead onto penisulas so they deadend and you would have to retrace your steps, plus you would be north of the haunted house.

If you are coming up 95 get off on Rt 100 headed NW toward Columbia. In about 1/4 mile, turn right on Rt 103 (Montgomery Road). Continue on 103. You will have two options for twisties:
Option 1 - Turn right on Ilchester Road. Ilchester turns into River Rd by the factory then turns into Thistle Rd. Continue on Thistle to Rt 144 (Frederick Rd). Turn right on Frederick.
Option 2 - Stay on 103 past Ilchester. Turn right on New Cut Road. New Cut Road dumps you into Ellicott City at Frederick Rd. Turn right on Frederick.
(My preference is New Cut Rd. It is smoother, wider and more fun.)

There is only one restaurant in the area where you won't have parking problems - Matthews 1600, oddly enough it is located at 1600 Frederick Rd., Catonsville, 21228 410-788-2500. The food is decent. You may be able to set up a private room for the group.

You will still be about a half hour from Essex depending on traffic. Frederick Rd. to 695. 695 to 95. 95 through the Ft. McHenry tunnel.

Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in Matthews 1600. I just happen to live in the area.

That is exactly where I had in mind!! Going some where through the Patapsco Valley State Park should be nice. If you like that idea, I'll try to think of places to meet off of 100 that might work.

I'll keep my eye on this thread to see the final plans. This is the only weekend in October that we do not have other committments. We might be able to at least make the twisties and chow. I'll check with the navigator.

Hope you all don't mind some irresponsible old folks tagging along.

I would like to get a consensus of what time people want to meet up, if you all want to do some kind of run, if you want to get some chow, or if you just want to meet there or what? Feedback please! That way some of the people feeling out the roads can know if it is a waste or if it will be a go!
I know that this is a Friday night, and most people will be getting off of work, so lets see what you all would like to do!

I would prefer to chow. Some of us will be getting off work and fighting traffic to get there. Our stomachs will be eating themselves if we don't feed them.

We would be up for some food too. I would guess the meeting time will depend on what time people think they can get up to the Baltimore area.

Sunset is going to be right around 5:02pm. FYI.

I did not read the whole thing so if my questions are a repeat sorry !!

At what time do we want to see the hunted house? If Dinner is important should we eat before going in? Should we go see the hunted house first then go to dinner?

I am flexible but need to know to schedule my work around this event

Need to update my RSVP: GyPsy and I are coming but James is not. My mom has yet to make up her mind about her trip to US. I might bring an associate of mine's daugther: is there an age restriction to the hunted house?

Ok everyone, this is where I need some feedback from you all. I am not working this day, so I don't know what you all want to do.
The hours of the haunted house are 7p-12a. I was thinking about 8-8:30ish so it isn't too busy that they will shut down the entrance. (which they have been known to do because there are too many people arriving) But if that is too early, let me know!
As for food, I am all about that! But I will need to know two things. Who is wanting to grab chow before we go in, and if you want to get it in Essex, or in Ellicott City (where we will be meeting up for all the DC folks) Jeremy says that there is a restaurant or two up there, or I know there are a bunch between Columbia and Ellicott City where we can get a group of people into.
There was some thought of doing a little run before we go as well. Again, I am up for it, but if we get food, and then get up there, we may not have time for it.
So these are the things I need to hear back from you all, since the majority of you are working Friday, as well as traveling from the DC area. I have no problem finding a diner or a 'fast' restaurant in Ellicott City, I have a couple in mind. Also, I will let you know (depending on what time you want to get up there ) were we will be meeting. I think it will be easier to meet up in Ellicott City and travel up the highways to the HH, faster, that is for sure.
So PLEASE!!! let me know!! I want to make this event possible for EVERYONE!!

Treking back up to that area after work is going to be cutting it close for food, a run, and the haunted house....

I will have to try to leave early as it is.

I think we should stick to food and the Haunted house. Just my two cents.

As much as I would love to do a run, it think we will not have enough time between eating and then the HH, esp with 21 people.

I'll throw it out there though, does 7pm sound doable for meeting in Columbia/EC? That gives us approx an hour (or so) to eat and get to the HH by 8-8:30pm.

Kinda what I was thinking.

Wendy, what do you think about meeting at the Park and Ride there at 100/103? From there that gives us lots of options for chow. We can take over Red Robin, Pizzeria UNOs, or even go up to Jillys or TT Diner or something like that? Do any of these places sound good?

I will prefer HH first (more likely most people will go after dinner .. thus longer lines) then dinner so that we can eat w/o rushing and enjoy people's company.

Yeah, park and ride would be great. Or there's the one on Snowden at 175, behind CompUSA, that would work too. RR would be great, or Don's...if we got "fast" there's CfA (chick-fil-a)...oooohhh or Fudruckers. So many choices. Our hinderance though is the size of our group, do you think we can call ahead?

Marina is right though, there will be more people later, but I know I won't be able to wait that long for dinner and per Asya's email, she prabably won't either. What about ice cream or dessert after the HH?

I'm looking like a tentative now - I won yet another happy hour party at Howl at the Moon (this makes 3 now! sheesh!) and the 20th was the only day that I'd be able to fit it in, so I don't think I'd be making this event... but even if I'm not there in person I'll still be there... in spirit! MUHAHAHAA~~!

But you WILL be at the Mad Hatter party the following evening correct?

It looks as though I may be a tentative too. I have a friend flying in on the red eye from California for the Mad Hatter Party. His flight arrives at 4 a.m. OYE!
