Britain on the Green Car show!!

The Capital Triumph Register and some other British car clubs are having a councours this Sunday. Follow the link below to register. I went last year, and it was amazing, so many neat cars from old MG TD to Triumphs, classic MINIs, new MINIs, my favorite, the Austin Healy and many others. Let's get a dozen or more shiny new MINIs out!!!

Yup

Was great fun last year. I had my 3 week old convertible there. Alas I don't think there's any chance I'll have it back from the body shop in time for BOG this year... Super day though and lots of awesome cars.

Whoops, what happened? Well, meet us there anyway, it is only a few miles away from your house...

Yup, I'll go I'm sure. Had a choice between a pedestrian or a curb... The idiot pedestrian was lucky. He ran out in front of me. MINI not so much lucky. All will be fixed, just don't know if it'll be in time for the Dragon...

Wow, sorry to hear that. Did you go with Wagon Work? They rock, most excellent body shop in the area.

My MINI and Chris Kaminsky's MINI will be in the show. Just detailed mine a bit today (not to the q tip level, just a basic shiny car level...) Anyone who is going should enter their MINI so we can have our own class!

FYI, the show was great. Nice sunny day, lots of shiny cars. Oh, but only four new MINIs! Huh? Where were the rest of you?? Even if you don't want to shine up your car, you can still enter. Heck, there is often a dirtiest car prize. I was hoping to see some new Bentleys and Aston Martins, but didn't. There was a great looking 1959 Jaguar Mark II, and an Aston Martin DB4 which looked better than new. Very shiny.

One of my other favorite cars was the classic MINI pickup truck. I think BMW needs to make a few, it is very cool, and a practical shrubbery hauler! Chris took a bunch of pics, and I took a few so we'll post some presently.

Would love to see a shot that MkII. Pops had a '59 XK150 "Fixed-Head" coupe when I was a kid, first of many Brit sports cars in our family. Wish I could've attended, but this was 'detail day' at the protohousehold.

I agree - it was a nice car show on a nice day. I saw the 4 Minis (including the Hotwheels one) which were next to the DeLoreans (I thought DeLoreans were American?). My Mini was in the parking lot and trust me - no one wants my car to represent the Mini owners! Poor thing hasn't had a bath in weeks and the wheels are caked with brake dust.

I would have to say that my favorites were the Lotus Elises. As Paris Hilton would say: That's Hot!

I'm assuming it was free to attend this event because I didn't pay anyone.

Nice show, Wensley and Wifey had a great time, we too wished there had been more new minis to gather with.

The Jag MkII was super, where's Morse and Lewis ?

We really thought the burgandy AM Vantage was a super nice car, if you squint enough you could see 69' Mach 1 in the design, though I'm sure Ford was influenced by AM with the fastback mustangs. The blue and cream Morgan was cool as was the 48' MG down by the river.

Loved the Mini panel truck too but was turned off by the nasty BMW Mini sticker crap on the back of one of those originals........as Prince says "Act your age not your shoe size"

Cheers,

Mike

HA, speaking of the "100% non-BMW parts" stickers and all that stuff... that paintjob was NISSAN paint!!! He was the 1st place winner too!

Sorry I missed talking to you classicfreq. I didn't place the car so didn't realize that was you. And I know better to approach members of the general classic community wearing a shirt with a 'new' MINI on it. Aproaching Mini owners while wearing MINI regalia is like trying to pick up a women at a gay bar. You know ahead of the time the advance is unwelcome so why subject yourself to...

Thanks! Feels a little silly getting a award at a show that's primarily for 'classic' cars... But there were enough 'new' MINIs for their own class, and it's just a specators choice kinda thing so...

Ta Dah!

Hey Mark.. couldn't find you after you won and I wanted to get the hell out of there basically right afterwards. I *should* have come over there to chat with yah but I had to do soo much networking so I can get my car back on track (pun intended?? not MY Mini haha). I gave a Miniology tshirt to Frank so next time I see you remind me =D

Oh, and are you calling classic owners gay??? rofl

Yup, I stayed at the tent for all the awards.

NO! Let's not start another war! Only meant a Mini owner might welcome a MINI owner as warmly as a Lesbian would welcome a straight guy with a pick up line at a bar.

No gender modes or preferences were intended to be attributed to any Mini owner, living or dead, real or fictional.

I had a great time on Sunday. Nice talking to everyone who was there when I passed by. I also had a good time talking to Frank Parsons who won an award for his classic Mini. He seemed very knowledgeable about classic Minis and I learned a great deal. Despite the stickers on his car, he was actually very friendly and encouraged others to join the Capital Mini Register including new Mini owners.
Apparently there are already 70 members of the Capital Mini Register, both classic and new Mini owners. I had no idea they even existed. Is there any reason why we don't do joint functions with them?

Sounds like a good idea, I love old Minis too and once I have some disposable income intend to get one It's nice to see them together on the road
