Baseball's Back!!!!

At 5:00PM Washington DC Mayor Anthony Williams officially announced the Major League Baseball will be relocating the Montreal Expos to Washington DC in time for the 2005 Baseball Season.

As soon as enough of the adminstation of the team has been moved to Washington, I'll be calling their group sales people for a DCMM night at RFK Stadium (probably NOT opening day! )

Is DC Now a Major League Town?

It is shame they did not put the team in Northern VA where the fan base is.
If they build it on the Anacostia you might as well drive to Baltimore.
I guess Washington now can be considered a major league city.
Lets see if they can keep a team this time.

It will be a National League team. No word on the name, that probably won't happen until after new owners for the team come forward...

They may not be the latest incarnation of the Washington Senators... The Texas Rangers still own the rights to the Senator's name, Mayor Williams is advocating the Washington Grays after the old Negro League team. Besides, he doesn't want to honor Congress when DC doesn't have voting representation there!

I think the team should be called the "Washington Scandals!"

HEY!! I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK!

Lifelong Orioles Fan here! - although they did take two from the Blue Jays today!

[was a lifelong (?) Baltimore Colts fan too!! ]

I'm sure that Peter Angelos will "make out o.k." on the deal however.

So what are they gonna be called? (The orginal name of the team in DC was the Washington Nationals, if I remember correctly.)

The Nationals is WAY old. It was the Washington Senators both times DC lost baseball... And the infamous slogan "Washington: First in War, First in Peace, Last in the American League!"

Some of the proposals I've seen so far:
Grey's
Mallers
Gridlock
Phillibusters
Freedom (But that was the name of the defunct women's soccer team)
Traffic
Stars
Winners
Monuments
Vipers (No idea where that one came from!)
Legends
Militia
Federalists
Bandits
Generals
Pioneers
Glory
Metros (But I think that's too close to the Mets)
Justice
Colonials
Whips
Dragons
Beaurocrats
Columbians
Stars & Stripes

As you can see, some are better than others!

National League, huh:smile: See your team in St Louis Whatever they may be called Hopefully you'll have more fans than what they had in Montreal. They had 31,000 show up tonight, 90% of them had probably never been to a game They showed them all crying in the stands I thought there was no crying in baseball

The Orioles

They could always call them the Washington Capitals. After all, St. Louis did have a Cardinals baseball and football team at the same time. Or the Washington Federals and they could be called The Feds.

Look, Peter Angelos is a cry baby. There is only one reason why he doesn't fill the stands every night now like he used to. He's a moron when it comes to baseball - his sons are even dumber than he is. They think they know how to run a baseball team and they have no clue. The Orioles are merely an ego trip for Angelos. He has absolutely no concern for the fans at all. After all, the only manager that took them to the playoffs two years in a row was fired.

I had season tickets for years to Camden Yards. My season tickets started out at $9 a seat and ended up at close to $25 a seat when I finally gave them up. This was also accompanied by concessions almost doubling and parking doubling in price. Every year - 30% increase in ticket prices, some years more. When they signed Albert Belle and raised ticket prices again I said "enough". I called my Sales Rep at The Orioles and told him that I was not renewing my tickets. When I didn't send in the renewal, he called me and asked me again to renew the tickets. I informed him that any team that signed Albert Belle (who at the time was probably the player that hated baseball fans the most - the season before he tried to run over fans in the parking lot in Chicago) didn't deserve ticket money from me. I was told that management's attitude was "if you don't buy the tickets, someone else will". I told him that if that attitude and price increases continued at the rate they were, that they'd have a lot of empty seats in 5 years. I was spot on. Albert Belle was just as big a waste of money as Glenn Davis. They also treated Mike Mussina and Rafael Palmiero badly. I'm surprised Raffy came back to the Orioles.

If the management of the team in Washington realizes that the fans are their most important asset they will be a success.

I think Peter Angelos should inhale some asbestos dust. The problems he has in Baltimore are his own doing.

ANGELOS - GET A LIFE!!!

Wow. A local team that will be even worse than the O's.

For as much as the O's suck, people here love them. And Camden Yards is absolutely beautiful.

Can't wait to get stuck in even-worse DC traffic next season. Maybe they'll build it right by the old Greyhound bus station on Rt50 instead of on the Anacostia.

But it's great that there will be another MLB team in the area, I highly doubt the O's will suffer as a result. and yes, Peter Angelos stinks.

What a cynic! It's obvious you don't live in the area. Why knock DC so much? I've lived here all my life and love the area. Sheesh!

Don't get your shorts in a knot; notice my locale, Cincinnati. Just getting you riled up for a bit of intra-league rivalry come next April.

p.s. Been to the Capitol city on many occasions. Great place you've got there.
