Long time no NAMM for me!!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas (or whatever you celebrate)!

Question for any of the experts out there.

Is there any recommended oil filters besides getting one from the dealer? We just into our first house (congrats us!) in Oct. so I get to start doing oil changes myself and need to do on really badly. The only filter that I can find locally is at Autozone and it's an STP oil filter. I thought that I had seen something a while back on NAMM about staying away from the filters at NAPA or somewhere like that. Does anyone remember anything like that?

Here is a list of aftermarket filters. There has been a lost of discusssion on this topic. The OEM O ring seems to fit the best without leaks but fits a bit too tight in the cannister. Have heard that the NAPA filter fits better but the O ring is smaller and may cause leaks. I personally use the OEM filter and eliminate any guessing. If you buy from a dealer, Morristown Mini and Classic Mini have very competitive prices.

 

And don't forget you will also need the proper sized oil filter socket. If you search on the internet, you can find deals where you get the socket and a couple of filters.

 

Iv'e been using a NAPA/Wix filter (part #7303) since my second oil change and have not had any issues. Now at 160k miles. O-Ring has never leaked. Just make sure you really lube that sucker up before re-installing the canister.

It is especially important with the MCSa to get a short socket as there is less room to maneuver than with the MCS (I know as I did the first oil change on my MCS with a regular depth socket and had to quickly find a short socket for the MCSa oil change).

They stock Mann filters.

 

used the STP last month and I have a small but steady leak. Now looking to see if I can find OEM locally since dealer is so far away or may go with FRAMM.
