To Wave or Not To Wave?
born to wave!
--I'll try to wave or shake the "shaka" sign at people and I usually at least get a smile. Yes there are some anomalies where emotionless aliens are allowed to buy a MINI, but those only account for 10% of the non wavies. The rest of the non-wavies are either not paying attention, or old and not into waving anything anymore, or are too busy admiring my MINI.
But even if only 1 out of 5 people wave back or give me the "shaka" sign back it's totally worth it. Cuz then two strangers connect and suddenly everyone around us is just not as cool as us. That's how I feel anyway. I'm sure people are driving in their Hondas and or Toyota's thinking "what a bunch of dorks."
I don't care. I'm still having more fun than the non-wavers.

Just can't picture a Camry club........and then doing a run or car show
.....Breakfast at the Toyota dealer, check out my latest mods dude.....
On several occasions we've had car loads of asians smiling and waving to us
Is there a shortage of Mini's in the East ?
No kidding, its really quite cute !
I get smiles and waves from many different folks, not just MINI Geeks, it really is nice to see people being human when driving our roads can be miserable. My wife and I have been interogated so many times when we stop somewhere......"That's a cool car" "How do you like your MINI ?" "Is it fun to drive ?" "Bet it handles great"
I'm not out for attention but it does make the day nicer and can bring me up after a tough day at the grindstone
Cheers and waves to all !
Mike

still waving
--Waved at a silver R53 yesterday out of a shell gas station and he waved back with a smile. We certainly stand out in the sea of Subaru's, Volkswagens and Audi's out here in Vermont.
I'll continue to be an ambassador of MINI good will even out here on the East Coast.

We're waving back at cha'.....
[quote=MrMellowYellow;1811071]So my question to all you grizzled veterans is, do we wave to other MINIs or is this just not done in the DC area?
HI there,
We're fairly new MINI owners too, got ours May 12th, 2008 and we wave every time we notice a MINI nearby. Heck, I even wave across I-495, I-66 and I-95 from the passenger seat just in case the MINI going the other way sees us too! It's contagious, I would say over 80% of the people that actually notice us wave back. We are in the MINI when I do this, I don't usually wave at other MINI's when in our other cars, not that I haven't been tempted just figure without my MINI they're confused.
P.S. I counted MINI's while sitting in the passeger seat on our way to Atlantic City from Chantilly and back, counted exactly 30 some parked but most on the road. So keep waving ya never know

Well I have to chime in here....Since I purchased my R50 almost 1yr ago I've have seen an increase in the number of MINI's on the road, lets' face it it's a unique buggy that's packed with a lot of high end features and gets great mpg to boot. But the occupants of some of these MINI's seem snobish!!! Recently I pulled up along another MINI an R53 at a red light...nice looking one red with a black top and a woman is in the pilot seat and she could not be bothered. I tried staring...didn't work, I tried honking the horn...didn't work, I tried incinh forward to get into her line of sight and nothing, finally I gave up.
I don't know about you, but when I'm at a stand still in traffic I'm checkin' out everything around me, but this women could not be bothered and when the light changed she shot off like a rocket.
The mini community is growing, but it still small enough to remain a uniquie looking car and how would you not notice another mini next to you. And don't get me started about waving...more and more mini operators do not respond to other mini's when in traffic....and the one thing I have noticed is that more men respond to other minis more so than women...whats up with that?
One other thing I went to the Woodstock Fair this weekend and there was a guy trying to get people to pay to park in his lot, well I was shocked to see that his lot had around 12 minis and to stay with the mini brotherhood I paid the $5 (which was cheaper than other lot operators trying to hose you) and I ended up spending more time with the mini crew than I did in the fair...what a great day!
