IMPORTANT INFO: JCW Package for '11 MCS

Not sure if this is the right place but I figured this should be known.

It seems me and Derk have been "test subjects" for what exactly came with the JCW Package for the 2011 Mini Cooper S. So I'd like to clear it up for those who are interested in ordering their MC or MCS with the JCW Package in the future.

You will get: JCW Aerokit
........You will NOT get: Black Grille Surround
Note: The Chrome grille surround is being consistently installed incorrectly leaving a portion on the lower drivers side sticking out and loose, be sure to check this piece carefully.

You CANNOT order 17" Black Challenge Wheels.

You will get: 17" Silver JCW Challenge Wheels with MINI center caps
........You will NOT get: JCW Center Caps

FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS:
You will get: Leather Steering Wheel with Red Stiching
........You will NOT get: Red Stitching on the Automatic Shifter boot OR the hand brake boot
........You will LOSE: Paddle Shifters
UPDATE HERE: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...48-post67.html

Please be advised that there is a rule in OKA AG that states if you order Option 205 (Automatic) with Option 7HN (John Cooper Works Package) then you cannot have Option 2XA (Shifter Paddles). These rules are implemented by Germany, so there isn’t anything additional I can do on my side.

Best,
***** ******
MINI USA
Manual transmissions receive the stated Red Stitching: Steering Wheel, Shift boot, Shift ****, hand brake boot

I think this has covered the discrepancies between the Configurator and what has been showing up at dealerships... if I'm missing anything let me know.

I don't think anyone gets the black grille surround anymore. Even my JCW came with the chrome. I guess thats what they pulled out of the kit to save money when they lowered the price on it even for factory JCWs.

I guess I got mine just in time then. My port-installed kit has the black grill surround.

You don't have paddle shifters?! I'd be irate.

It's worth noting that the chrome grille surround on both of our cars was installed incorrectly, too.

I bet its cause they give you the exact same steering wheel that JCW's come with, and did not make a new steering wheel for this package. And JCWs are always manual, and so have never had paddle shifters.

Noted, I'm also assuming you got the red stitching everywhere it was supposed to be?

It's a possibility, but I do feel two holes on the back side of the steering wheel where I'd expect the shifters to be.. those part of the JCW steering wheel too?

I like this theory.

JCWs come with the same steering wheel as a Cooper or Cooper S.

I guess you guys get the leather JCW steering wheel with the red stitching as part of this package? If that is the case JCW steering wheels are only for manual trans cars. There is no hole or notch on the back side for paddles.

The Cooper and Cooper S get a steering wheel with red stitching?
Cause my steering wheel has red stitching and its the one from the factory on my JCW.

Here's what my steering wheel looks like.

That's the one. It's part of the JCW Package.

Yeah, I figured the package gives you the same steering wheel. But didnt' think the MCS/MC without the package would have the same steering wheel like Onefish2 was saying.

It doesn't, unless a JCW comes by default with a black-stitched wheel. I drove more than one '11 MCS and hadn't seen the red-stitched wheel 'til I picked up mine.

While my grille was being replaced this morning, I noticed that the MCS in my dealer's showroom with the JCW package also had the grille & surround installed incorrectly. Someone somewhere is doing something wrong.

I got my black surround now though, and it's nice.

I should check mine too then. Which corner is it? And will it be something obvious I'll notice?

Driver side bottom corner, it won't be obvious until you notice it... then you won't be able to see anything but that

No you had it right the first time. The steering wheel for 2011 Factory JCW cars is essentially the same wheel as the wheel on non-JCW cars. The only difference is the red stitching. If I had to guess though I would think that if one wanted the paddle shifters could be fitted to the factory JCW wheel.

I think it's also worth noting that there is some potential for confusing when using the moniker "JCW steering wheel" which to me implies the wheel that is actually sold individually as a dealer installed accessory. This is of course completely different from the wheel that comes standard on the Factory JCW cars or as a part of the "JCW package" Of course prior to 2011 a Factory JCW would look identical to that of any other MINI.

Its really disappointing that they stopped swapping the chrome grilles. I will probably try to fight my dealer to make them give me one anyway since thats the way it looked on the mini configurator. Thats one of the main options that made the car look so sleek with the JCW aerokit.

Knowing that so many people order the mini online and never actually having seen the car in person before they get it which is a big no no for most people......how can Mini not make the online configurator dead accurate as far as what the car will look like? I for one feel like that is misrepresentation.

Also one last thing I was confused about, will the manual cars not get the red stitched steering wheel, etc?

You do get the red-stitched wheel with the manual. The trouble with the auto is that you lose the paddle shifters.

Ok awesome, but not the E-brake or seats or anything like that?

Red stitching is on the e-brake boot, shift boot and wheel. You also get the red lettering on the shift **** itself. The seats are the same as in the vanilla MCS.
