If I purchased new wheels online, do I need to buy new TPMS sensors or can they use the ones currently on the car?

The sensors are mounted inside the tire, usually as part of the valve stem. If you’re getting a pre mounted wheel/tire combo, you’ll definitely have to get new sensors. If wheels only and re-using your old tires or buying new locally, you could possibly use your old ones. IMO, unless you know your old sensors are compatible with the new wheels (not always 100%), and you know the sensors/batteries are fairly new, I would just buy new sensors because I don’t think the batteries are replaceable. It would suck to use the original sensors only to have them die before the tires need replacing.
You should also be able to get new sensors locally if needed. Just make sure the new sensors are compatible with your TPM system because I’ve seen a few posts where the new sensors wouldn’t connect due to the frequency or some other communication issue.

@RB-MINI
thank you. Yeah if i do the combo I’ll definitely just buy the sensors. But thinking about just upgrading the wheels now. But of course that would probably cost me more for transferring tires and tpms and balancing as opposed to just mounting.
this was supposed to be cheap and easy. Oh well.
