2013 Ford EcoSport - A rear mounted spare, does anyone offer this for the R60?

I came across this funky little crossover the other day:

http://www.netcarshow.com/ford/2013-...llpaper_06.htm

It got me thinking, why can't we have a rear mounted spare? I know that the hatch handle is one huge stumbling block as it is mounted right in the dead center of the tail.

But what about an accessory that uses one of the hitch racks as a starting point? I know most people are content to have the crappy ride of their runflats for the perception that the tires are really the best bet in case of a flat situation, but having just switched out my tires for non-runflats I couldn't be happier...

...and also disappointed that the space-saver options don't properly fit anywhere. On a long road trip, the space-saver might be a space-hog. So why not a rack-mounted full-sizer? I'd be down for it if it looked cool, was functional, and secure. Anyone else?

I am willing to bet you could have one made pretty easily. Just a cross bar with a riser and a tire plate. Could probably have one side pinned and the other on a hinge to get into the boot. One of the hitch manufacturers had a prototype at one of the '07 events. Since the Countryman already has a built in mounting system, might be even easier.

hopefully it comes with an inexpensive spare. I would only want to use this part time.

I will def stay tuned for that one. I wonder if it will use the stock mounting holes for the factory tow bar/bike rack.

update, rear spare carrier is now available from minifini

just heard from john at minifini they have a rear spare tire carrier for the countryman

it ain't cheap, composed of three pieces

1)County-link $295 + $45 shipping (basic hitch)
2)Countryman Attachment Base $105 +$15 shipping (basically an adapter to part 3)
3)Clubman Spare-Link $134.99 + $23.50 shipping

total $618.49

end result is a "Continental" rear spare tire carrier

the spare-link folds back and down for access to the boot

scott

i am not affiliated with minifini, but will soon be a customer!
