Will over load engine oil harms the engine?
Hi everyone, today I do visit a local garage by changing the engine oil, I bought a total of 5.4 liter of Mobil 1 5W30 oil (a tank of 4.4L and another 1L just in case). When the technician (young and new guy) filled up the engine oil, he thought the bottle of 4.4L engine oil is 4L.... Then he ends up put all 5.4L engine oil into my engine(which he thought the total is 5L)... I tell him that my Mini manual only recommand 4.5L maximum of engine oil, but he said it should be fine...
May I ask if it will be ok? Or should I take another visit tomorrow by take off some engine oil?
Thanks for any information.

There are a bunch of things that can go wrong from overfilling. While there is too much oil in the engine, high pressure may develop in the crankcase, you can get oil leakage through the oil pan gasket and other engine seals. You might have noticed reduced gas mileage while the oil level was too high - it's possible that the crankshaft was splashing in the oil, which made it work harder. And that splashing could cause the oil to foam up, which could cause the oil pressure in the crankcase to drop and perhaps lead to premature engine wear or even damage. In my experience, this would be a rare occurrence... mostly too much oil just makes a mess.

Oh, an elitist statement. I see. Watch what you say out in the real world. Honda engines completely blow away our Brazilian-built, Chrysler-designed, iron-block, SOHC tractor motors. People in glass houses.
