Will drop in pannel filter make a difference in sound?
It makes a tiny bit more sound, but only when you really hit it (on ramps and such). The major difference that I noticed when I put the K&N panel on there was that the stock paper filter was probably clogged pretty good. The car seems to rev a little quicker and like I said, is a little louder on the top end. It's a pretty good compromise if you choose to stay stock and want the cleanability of the reusable filter. Don't expect any HP gains, but it does seem to flow a little better. A nice, stealthy tweek... good chance to clean out the airbox too.

K&N drop in filter in my '05 MCS sounds no different. If you're doing the mod for the sound, I'd suggest putting that $40+ towards an Alta intake. My average MPG did rise almost 1 MPG, but I didn't notice any fifference in sound, at least not inside the car.

The question I posed also works for those who have Coopers. I am lead to believe the part is the same on both Coopers and Cooper S'. I seem to have offended someone who may be short sighted and insecure.
I'll withdraw my question. How stupid of me to think a search on drop in panel filters would lead me to other sincere MINI owners who are more than happy to share their experiences.

Advise is advise and help is help no matter who comes up with it.
Back to the topic, I've tried a couple different types of panel filters and noticed no difference....and I can't imagine how there would be any. If there's any difference it's probably really hard to hear.
I had K&N drop in filter and I can tell the diffence, but only at higher RPM. The engine roars similar to an intake but much less noise and more civilized. That's why I have K&N cold air intake now

if you want a real difference that you can hear and feel go with a full intake change. I just installed the mymini cold air intake and it's GREAT
love the sound and can feel a difference.Much smoother all the way up the R.P M. and I think it's a little faster. I think it in proved the sound even more the the mymini exhaust. The exhaust is a great upgrade as well.
