Starter motor would not click after gearbox swap

Hello!
I swapped the Midland 5 speed 'box o' gears of my 2002 Cooper with the 6 speed from the Cooper S.
Everything went fine but now the car would not start. Please help :-)

The solenoid does not click. Zero, turning key and nothing happens.

The starter motor has been changed as part of the swap (the 6 speed has a slightly different one).

The leaky crankshaft position sensor' oring has been changed

The car drove fine (well, apart from 'box bearings) when it entered the shop

The battery has been disconnected for the week it took to do the job and re-charged.

I didn't carry out the work myself so I cant rule out bad wirings.

Any ideas/what to check?

Going to move you to the Mod section.

Get a second set of eyes, turn the lights on and then turn the key to start the engine. If the lights do not dim then chances are the starter is not getting any juice. Have you verified the engine ground strap next to the passenger side motor mount is tight as well as checked to make sure the clutch pedal switch is functioning?

This literally happened to me two weeks ago when I swapped my transmission.

Check the EM main fuse under the hood, then the grounding points (one on pass. mount, two jumper boxes with brown wires on the outside of the fenders grounded with one nut). Finally, test voltages at the starter. The big wire should read 12V constant, the small one should read 12V only when someone turns the key.

Mine ended up being a magically, coincidentally bad starter. Not sure why or how it happened, it worked great beforehand. Maybe the solenoids go bad if not powered for a long time? Idk, good luck!

Aaaand seems mine was the same! It took a while to understand because motor was short-circuited and solenoid was stuck, so the symptoms were kinda unclear, turning key would at first equal to car going "dark" then the fuse blew and it would simply do nothing. She likes to play jokes on me
Motor is on its way to be rewound, should be here friday or monday.

Thankyou for pointing me to your thread, I am reading it with interest.

Now I`m driving around this thing, the successor to the very car (500) that motorized rural parts of Italy. A legend on wheels
