As I recall a guy from England (Lakes District?) bought a 2014 Cooper early on and replaced the muffler with a straight welded pipe and posted it in the F56 forum (the only one then).
Hello- It's been awhile since a number of you have done the muffler delete. I would appreciate any comments, positive and negative, to your experience. Thanks.
Have a straight pipe welded in place of the muffler, $100 later...you have an amazing sounding Cooper. I've gotten so many compliments on how my car sounds with this setup...it's amazing such a tiny little motor can make such great noise. You would think with no muffler it would be way loud...but it's not at all, the turbo muffles the sound quite a bit.
I keep meaning to get a sound clip of it, but haven't got around to it. Maybe today I'll try.
would you please upload a video of the sound? Thank you so much!
Ok updates, sorry I haven't had time to do a video yet. But the result of delete the muffler just out a BIG smile on my face on the way home! The car sounds amazing now and it is even more fun to drive it now! Definitely the most worthy mod ever!
There are some people mentioning that they removed the muffler while others say they removed the resonator. With the F56 non-S, is that one and the same?
I really like they way the car sounds based on numerous youtube clips, just looking for some info if I have to remove the muffler and resonator or is the resonator in combo with the huge muffler at the rear?
#1 on the picture below is the catalytic converter if I'm not mistaken? Just remove the big piece at the rear before the tip?

I just removed the muffler or "big piece at the rear..." and the sound is a huge improvement over stock. This is what most the of cars in the videos did as well. I drove home with the back seats folded down which I am sure made an impact on the volume inside the cabin. The tone seems to be similar to a Remus muffler that I had on my old 3 series. It is deep but once you get going it quiets down. So far I did not have drone in city driving and will test out the highway this afternoon.
Im thinking of having my muffler removed and the resonator cut out. For those that have done this, did you throw any codes? Were you able to pass inspection?
I am interested in the same question. If there any codes or check engine light associated with the delete. NY can be sticklers when it comes to emissions. Love the sound with the muffler delete.
You can do the muffler delete and enjoy the exhaust sound the hole day or you can put on a cut out so you can quite the exhaust same as the JCW exhaust button
I already saw your video and it sounds amazing, I´m waiting for the weekend to do the muffler delete to my volcanic mini, i´m really exited to do it.
Also I do a custom made intake.
Finally got around to have the muffler delete done on my '14 Mini cooper f56 non S. It sounds amazing! It cost me $190. The Muffler shop straight piped it, included additional hangers and took my exhaust tip off and reinstalled on the new exhaust end.. They also positioned the exhaust tip a little further out of bumper. Which I definitely liked the look of. It I saved the muffler just incase I need to reattach in the future. Thanks for all the advise.
