R50 assembly box cover?

All,

I am considering the purchase of a short shift kit for my 2002 R50, but am troubled by the prospect of losing the assembly box cover in the process. The cover made by NM does not fit the vehicle, and with the inclement weather in my area, I really don't want to go bare. Short of making one myself, is there any other cover out there that can be used? Or, is there a 2002 R50 short shift kit that does not require removal of the cover? THANKS

I think I've seen a replacement plastic cover with additional clearance for use with short shift kits, but I cannot remember where. BMP?? I will search & see what I can find!

I don't have a short shifter, but I have had the box apart to change my shifter cables. I'm wondering if one couldn't carefully heat the interfering area of the cover with a heat gun, and gently add some clearance. You would need to be careful to not warp the cover. I'd probably do it with the cover installed on the box, heating from the outside, and pushing gently with a blunt object such as the end of a broom handle (if it fit) through the hole where the shifter mounts.

When I did my six speed swap, this is how I was able to reuse my stock airbox. I clearanced it where it hit the new transmission mount.

Thanks for DIY suggestion, which I may resort to -- P66, if you can locate a cover out there, that would be a real help.

Searched over the weekend to no avail. Turns out the pic I saw was the blue NM one
I like Blackbombers suggestion. DIY is the way. Shouldn't be too tough to fabricate one

I'm way late to the thread, but I built my own cover extension for my CM. I imagine it's similar for the R50. You can see the $5 in parts at the end of my ssk install.
