How do you change the Rear Tail lights?
How do you change the Rear Tail lights?
I've been working little by little, "Moding" my Mini Cooper R56 and hate the Orange indicator lens in the rear. At time of purchase I didn't know that the clear indicator light could have been ordered as clear. I bought a set of rear tail lights with the clear round indicator lens in the center of each and don't know how to get to the rear tail lights. Does anyone have DIY tutorial or instructions?
Do I have to go through the boot/trunk of the Mini or from the exterior of my R56?
I really want to get these changed by me and not pay for labor somewhere. Thanks for the Help!

You remove the taillights by first removing the chrome trim around the lights. It just pops off by carefully levering it away from the light body using a padded screwdriver. Once the trim is removed you will see the screws that are holding the taillight to the body. Do a search; I'm sure there are some pics here somewhere that explains it in better detail.
If you use the small screwdriver in the jack kit in your trunk, and wrap the end with some electrical tape, I doubt you'll damage the chrome. I've done it dozens of times and there aren't any scratches. After you take the screws out of the lights it takes some wiggling to get them to come out of the car. You shouldn't need to pull it hard at all, but the first time I took the lights out it just took me a minute to figure out how to get them to come out.
