Everyone knocking this guy needs to get off their high horse. This is pretty spectacular! Some people just enjoy big projects to see whats possible. No cost benefit analysis needed. Whoever said this guy doesn't value his time has no idea what they're talking about. What better way is there to spend time than working on a MINI?! Would you rather be playing video games or sitting on NAM? Its like saying you're an idiot for detailing and waxing your car when you could easily take it to "joe schmoe auto detailer". The OP comes on NAM and shows off his mad modding skills and gets slammed?! I dont get it.

Now lets see some photos!

Well said...

but isn't being condescending and acting all wise and knowledgable what the internet is for? Especially forums?

kudos for doing the work but I would consider looking beyond the capacity of the S - especially since the DIY investment will not reflect well in resale.

Agreed! It would be awesome if someone modded a cooper to add a supercharger and front-mount intercooler. If you did that, you would win the Mini modder game.

1. You will NOT be saving any money. The work is purely a labor of love and enjoyment. If the goal is to have a Mini that will perform like an S, then buying an S will achieve that goal at a much lower total cost outlay. (Don't forget to factor in the value of your time.) If the goal is the simply the enjoyment of wrenching, wrench away.

2. Resale value will be less than what either the standard or the S model would otherwise be.
That is some serious modding this talented guy has and hes only 21. I see your point on resale value and such but some people dream until theyre dream is real. Beating a dead horse, as you did on this 2nd post, isnt convincing more people to your logic. You sound like the people who told me that running anything beyond a marathon is dumb.

Running a marathon is dumb, running anything beyond a marathon is just down right ludicrous!

I see nothing at all wrong with modding a Cooper to a Cooper S. I have been thinking along these lines a bit myself. Will it cost more, sure! But for many, it is financially easier to get into a Cooper than the S, and then at some later time, perhaps after the warranty expires, do the mods. Financially it will work out to more money, but it is not too far from folks who do 6yr loans or use mini select to keep payments low in the beginning. It costs more in the end, but you end up getting what you want with a more manageable payment. So I say bully on you, I'd like to see more folks doing these sorts of mods! There is way too much judgmental attitude on this forum!

Some people actually buy, drive, and mod cars for themselves, not the next owner. Resale value? Who cares, if you plan on keeping and enjoying your car to the maximum you can take it to.

Well some of the time a finance contract owes more than the car is worth - which makes changing up to an 'S and having to cover some Neg Equity, either in a lump sum or through financed payments a non feesible route.......

The Volume of Mini's here in Western Canada would make finding a wreckered S (to donor all parts), relatively easy and at a sensible cost!
