Towing A Small Pop Up Trailer With A Mini
Hi,
We just put the Mini Do More hitch on our 2007 Cooper. We were told that the towing capacity was 1400 lbs. We have a small Aliner pop-up trailer that weights 730 lbs. at the axle and 100 lbs at the tongue. Does anybody know if this should be a problem? Also, I ordered a plastic piece to cover up the rear fog light opening and the parts person said that we would void our drive-train warranty if we tow with the car. Four different people at my mini dealer including the manager said we could tow with the car. I was just wondering what any of you would know? Thanks in advance

It would be my guess that you would not void your warranty pulling that trailer. Pull a 10,000 pound airstream, and well ...
Like OWG said, braking and stability tend to drive the limit. I'd suggest limiting your speed to maybe 60 MPH to start with, since trailers that are pulled too fast often start swaying and you do not have enough weight to balance it out. I speak from experience in a prior car / trailer.
And braking is critical. Leave twice the space you would normally have and try to avoid hard stops !!
The minidomore hitch will easily take a tongue weight of 100 pounds, so you should be fine with your load.
