Copper S grill

I was at the dealer yesterday and i saw a MC that they put a black MCS OEM grill in place of the chrome unit, It looked very good. Has anyone seen this or done this?
How much is a oem MCS grill I wonder?

MY BGR/B has a gold grill like my gold stripes also done in vinyl. Any good vinyl guy can do it and it isn't real expensive. I have extra vinyl on hand in case of rock dings later on. Looks GREAT!!!!!

I think DJ is talking abou the MCS mesh grill on a cooper instead of the chrome slats. if its anything like the R53 you should be able to switch it out

Yea it was a MCS grill, it matched the lower grill, looked great for a more aggressive look.

The R56 MC and MCS grills are not interchangeable as they were with R50/R53. There is a JCW black grill for the MC and I've seen pictures on MINI2. It is meant to go with the JCW aero kit but the grill is available separately.

My MA told me that it was a MCS grill and it looked exactly like the grill below the bumper, and exactly like the MCS grill. I am sure it was a MCS standard grill, not just something similar,or a JCW. He said it just snaped into place, there were 2 holes to drill to complete the fastening, but 3 of the 5 anchors were installed. I guess they did not want to do that as the car was not sold and on the floor( i guess if someone wanted the original grill re-installed). This 07 MC was built and ordered by the MA for himself to purchase, but he said that the dealer gave him a good deal on a 06 they had in stock, so he did not take the one he ordered. He had a personal intrest in this car, so i'm guessing he would know the mods they did to it.

Okay, I guess your MA knows how to deal with it.

The information I saw was in these threads:

I replaced my stock red MCS grill with a black (not painted black, but molded black slats) that I purchased from my dealer for around $45. As far as the color strip in the bumper, don't waste you money buying a new black strip. Buy yourself a roll of good quality wide vinyl electrical tape and cover the strip with the tape. Works like a charm. I know several owners who have used the tape to cover the painted slats on the grill and that colored strip on the bumper.

Blacking the slats is a possibility, but what the original poster saw was a honeycomb grill because this thread is in the R56 forum.

I talked to my MA, he confirmed to me that the MC I saw in the dealer showroom (that now has been sold) did indeed have a OEM MCS grill installed in place of the OEM slat grill. He said that it was a 99% perfect fit, and no one could tell that it was not from the factory. In fact the dealer sold the car with that grill in place right off the showroom floor, it was a MC that they put 17" wheels on and sport stripes, the grill made it look hot.

According to two parts departments I spoke to today, yes, the part numbers are identical, and the upper grill for the S should cost $66 (both confirmed this) Not a bad deal. ordered mine today!

I should be picking up my NFR/B MC tomorrow, I am not going to order the MCS replacement grill just yet as I may put Driving lights on, and then I would order a MCS grill kit that has slots precut in the grill and also the brackets for the lights are included, I think about 100 bucks.

Thats strange...

I spoke my dealer yesterday and he told me that the cooper S grill didnt fit because it had some extra bolts.

Anyway, keep us posted.

Hi timekpr, sorry it took so long to get back to you about this. To date I have not swaped my grill, I think I am starting to like the chrome grill a little more as time goes on. However I was at a Mini club event and talked with some members and my MA, and the MC that had the MCS grill was there. We all discussed the swap, no problem, you need to buy the MCS grill and the lower crome part needs to be swaped as well as this part is part of the MC grill that will be removed.
Good Luck

j3bli, Your dealer was right, and wrong, it dose fit, just the pre drilled fastening holes don't line up, so you must drill a few holes in the proper place on the MCS grill to use all the fasteners. The MC I looked at did not bother to even use all the fastener points, the grill seemed fixed in there pretty good, he said it's not been a problem, again this mod was done by the dealer to a new 07 MC that was on the showroom floor.

shameless plug

And if any of you MC folks are wanting to do this swap, I have both my regular MCS waffle grille and an additional one modified for the Rallye lights (with the rallye light brackets) for sale in the for sale area. In fact, I'd love to swap straight up with someone my stock MCS waffle grill for their MC chrome grille. For that matter, my MCS waffle grille with rallye light brackets for a MC chrome grille and $40. I'll even send you mine first, and for a swap I'll include the chrome trim piece as well, assuming you include yours.

Hey, a guy has to get in his shameless plugs when he can, right?

FYI, I've completed this swap (MCS grill on my MC) and I love the new look. It's nearly a straight swap, though there is some mild trickery involved.

Why is it soo hard to find a 2007 MC Aero kit grill?
Is it just something i will have to order through my dealer or does anyone know of an online site that sells it for the 07?
