1964 Mini Sells for £100,000

Mini Sells for £100,000 - World Record Price For Ex-Works Mini At Bonhams Race Retro Sale ($197,000)

Bonhams achieved a milestone result for a Mini at the Race Retro Collectors' Car sale in Stoneleigh, England on Saturday 24 March 2007. 'DJB 93B', the ex-works 1964 Mini Cooper 1,275S Rally Saloon, winner of the 1965 RAC Rally (the only Mini ever to do so) and the 1966 Scottish Rally, sold for £100,500, drawing a round of applause in the saleroom. It is believed to be a world record price for a Mini.
This historically important rally car was offered in stunning condition, having undergone a complete restoration that was faithful to the original specification in every single detail. The vendor, who had never entered a car for auction before, was absolutely thrilled and said that the price achieved was far higher than he had even dreamt of. The Mini sold to a UK private collector.

Old topic that's been posted before. See discussions on the Mini Cooper Register regarding exactly how much of the original car this resto really represents. [basically only the registration, which has been applied to several other body shells before]. Altho it is good for us that own a real 60's Cooper S.

a comment:
£90k for the most well known fake works car ever. It was scrapped many, many years ago and a Geordie chap named Geoff ******** applied to DVLA for the logbook in the 1980's and got it. A Cooper S rally car supported by Mini Machine in the early nineties wore the plate for a while before it was added to a fresh car built from an 850 Mini shell.

Sorry its been posted before, I was in a hurry - no search
Stuart Turner has said many times all of the Works Minis had engines, bodyshells, registrations, chassis no's and even Austin or Morris badges swapped around to suit whatever the competition departments needs were at the time........are there any 100% "real" cars in existance?
(No need to answer i'm not that bothered as I'm not likely to ever own one.)
PS. The same discussions are common in the classic motorcycle world!

The folks on MCR are the ones to ask as they are the "keepers of the flame". Very knowledgeable and have data on most.
